Power door locks problem

Post by Arro » Wed Dec 12, 2007 6:21 pm

Ok, when I got this car, *I could swear* the power door locks worked on both sides. If I remember correctly, they stopped working on the passenger side right around when I got the seat covers.

Then they stopped. And Ive been lazy. So today I decided to take off the panel. But I have no clue what I'm looking for!

let me explain something... this car has had both passenger side doors repalced. The rear passenger door *never* worked with power locks, only manual (not sure why, if it doesn't have them inside or just wasn't wired up). The replacement door on the front passenger side worked. It has the "lock" button for the power locks.

I didn't put on the replacement doors, it was done before me.

The front passenger door is no longer power locking/unlocking. But the button on that door still power locks/unlocks the OTHER side of the car. So the button is working.

So I take the door off. I'm looking. I don't see any kinda motor by where the physical switch is. WTF am I looking for here?

Someone please help :(

well i dont know what an OEM power lock looks like, since i used an aftermarket kit on mine, but i could only imagine that it would still look somewhat the same... so it should be something like:

to be sure you should pop off the other door panel and see what is on that side

if you do have an actuator on the door make sure it is plugged in.. there should be a harness in there

then make sure everything looks right in the door thing
Image
that grey plastic piece in the middle of the picture is the factory plug thing between the door where all the speaker wires/power option wires/etc are attached... make sure the power lock (if it is there) is also plugged in there.. i dont know where it would supposed to be plugged in.. but yeah.. just make sure.. lol

then if all of these things check out, the actuator might just be busted.. and youll have to replace it.

I've got similar problems, sometimes when i hit the power lock on the drivers side, it does the opposite of what i want, ill lock it, it will unlock right after. think that switch is just getting crappy?

And also, you know how you can turn the key twice and hold it, that doesn't work anymore either, which is pretty annoying, just wondering if you had these problems as well, or anyone else for that matter..

When i turn my key in the door clockwise, it locks all doors. Or used to. Now it just locks both driver side doors.

Speaking of which, I think this is the ONLY car I've ever owned, driven, whatever, that has its door lock directions BACKWARDS from everything else. Including the four Dodge Daytonas I owned, which turned in the same directions as every other car I've come into contact with this.

But yeah, the power locking mechanism turns out to be inside the door, right by the latch. It's a mofo pain in the arse to even reach with your fingers, much less pull the connector loose. I'm going to get one of those tester lights with the little metal needlepoint, and test the current from that end and towards the door hinge.

What a PITA.

Sorry for the post resurrection but I've got a problem in those lines.

When I got the car, all the doors locked and unlocked properly with either the remote or the front doors switch.

Now, my left rear door makes a weird buzzing noise when locking, either when the swith/remote is used or the auto-lock when going past 20-25km/h and the unlocking sounds sightly different. I guess the locking mechanism is coming to an end? If so, any ideas on where I could get one and how to replace it?

Now for the next problem, my right rear door won't unlock. Not even manually. So I can't really open it. I think I could still remove the panel to check but I'm not sure. It stopped working just like that. No weird noise or anything. Locking mechanism failed too?
