need help quick: removing axle seal??

Post by jT » Thu Dec 13, 2007 9:38 am

how the hell do you get this thing off? ive got the puller from autozone, ive tried pry bars and screw drivers and hammers and it is not moving..

all ive been able to accomplish is completely screwing the seal up to the point that i can not put my axle back on and go without putting the new seal in

i dont know when its going to start snowing but we supposed to get up to 10" today.. i need to get this finished asap...

nothing is getting it out.. HELP!!

now ive got a big problem

i removed the "differential bearing cup retainer" (took that from a thread on neons.org) held in by 6 bolts where the axle seal is... well i took that off and i can not, can not get the god damn seal out

i have the spring torn out, the inner rubber part of the seal torn off, the outer metal part of the seal ripped and torn and cut into, but it will not come out.

im screwed right now!!

----------

ok i got it

holy crap i never want to do a seal again

i torched it a little bit and then was able to bend it inwards until it popped out

i hope i didnt damage the other piece!!

Yeah, those things are stubborn. They bent the cheap seal puller you can get at autozone.
Now I hammer them from the side with a screw driver and yank them out with vicegrips. Works great.
