Spool question

Post by Arro » Fri Dec 14, 2007 8:41 pm

For those who are turbocharged...

What PSI are you running at, and at what RPM do you reach max boost? And what turbo and exhaustg specs are you running with?

I'm interested in hearing from both SRT and non-SRT turbo'd 2GN's.

Srt-4 turbo I was running 8-9 psi and it was pretty instant, I never stabbed the throttle right off idle (no reason for that, no traction down there anyway) and I was at full boost by 2,500-3,000 rpm. Defiantly no lag there.

I spike 14 and drop to about 11 at redline. It hits max boost a short-hair of a second after I floor it. I'm usually paying attention to holding the steering wheel straight than what rpm I spool at. Stock srt turbo and 3" exhaust = unnoticable lag. With 3" o2 housing, should be almost nonexistent.

Non-2GN...
My Daytona spiked to 25psi at about 2800rpm on the low boost setting...talk about no traction  (ps it was a Garret T-04)

SRT turboed 2.0L. Stock 2.25" exhaust w/o muffler

14 psi by 2500 rpm with 50% throttle.

Anything above 3k rpm I get full boost at about 35% throttle. I hardly ever go WOT... no need for that kind of craziness.

you cant forget altitude that makes a huge difference in spool up time. my turbo spools up at 3800-3900rpm at 5800ft and about 3100rpm at sea level. this is on a AGP3147

Mox yeah I wanted exhaust, but the turbine specs are interesting to know, too.

I'm most concerned with:

- Max PSI set at...
- Full boost reached at.... (RPM)
- Turbo specs
- Exhaust specs
- Only on an SRT-4 engine.

Nice setup, but I'm just doing research on SRT-4 engines, not 2.0L. In terms of spool comparisons it's like apples and oranges.

I want to hear from the SRT owners on here.

I want more info than "no lag". It doesn't come on at 1K. What RPM does your 18psi hit at?

Wastegate is set to 25psi, hits full boost around 3000RPM.

Stage 3 turbo, TD05HR.

3" O2, 3" downpipe with a 3" Quicktime electric cutout, behind that is the stock SRT-4 exhaust, but when I want to go fast I just open the dump.

I'm only on 11 psi right now with the DBB 50 trim, it hits that full 11 psi at right around 2200......

3" exhaust from turbo to tips, no cat, no resonators, nothin but flow.

After I get home(less than 30 days, but I'm not counting or anything), I'll go get her tuned finally, and roll on the 24-28psi range with the DBB 50 trim....I'll update when I get those #'s

Yeah I just looked it up, it's a tiny sucker. So moving to a bigger turbo means more than 1500 rpm. Looks like 15 psi on a bigger turbo will be ~2500, and 25 will be ~3000. Of course that's a vague statement but you get the idea.

This is what I wanted to know, thanks to all of you :)

that's all dependant on whether the head/exhaust manifold/turbine housings are ported or stock, as well.

True; then I ask, who here that posted in this thread has a ported head? Again this is strictly SRT-4 engines.

In my research, I've noticed more people port there exhaust manifold rather than the head. From what I've read that I ch recall, a good port job on the manny with stock turbo is good for a couple hundred or so rpm difference on spool time. These questions would probably net you better responses on srtforums.

I was going there second. 2GN.org always gets my questions before srtforums or the other org. Can you blame me? lol

srtforums isn't really that bad, but I still get a straight answer here quicker and easier than anywhere else.
