tire question

Post by nineball » Tue Dec 18, 2007 4:23 pm

for those that have 17" wheels, what size tire are you running? from what i have found, 205/40-17 seems to be the correct size. the reason i ask is that i have the opportunity for a free set of khumo tires with about 2000 minles on them, but they are 225/45-17 and i fear that will be too big for my 05 sxt.

those are going to be too big, but hey, get them and sell them to someone, get some money for them, and get yourself some 205/40/17's. i think you can also run a 205/45/17 just fine, IIRC.

I posted this before but I'll put it up again. It'll give ya' an idea of how much larger or smaller the tires you'd like will be over stock.

215/40/17 are dead on matches for stock tire height

205/40/17 is pretty close.

Nothing wrong with the 225s. But you will have to use wheels with like a 32mm or lower offset to make them clear the spring perches. They will be just a hair bigger than stock, but not a full inch. Total height of the 205 should be 82mm or so, depending on tread, where the 225 should be 101. Now that's still going to be really close, so if those tires are really meaty, you may still have problems making them fit. To make them stock height, you're looking at an 85 or 86mm sidewall.
