relieving fuel pressure

Post by jckevns » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:45 am

i was looking at my haynes manual to relieve the fuel pressure and the first step listed is to remove the fuel filter cap to relieve pressure in the tank.

what is the the fuel filter cap/where is it? i thought the fuel filter was combined with the FPR

the 2nd step is to remove the fuel pump relay. would removing the relay be enough or does the fuel filter cap have to be removed?

Why do you need to relieve fuel pressure? If you're trying to do that to pull the rail off or something, just make sure the car has been off for a while, and put a rag under the line. Some will spill, but not more than like a teaspoon.

I don't think there is a pressure relief on the FPR assy. It is on top of the tank to the front IIRC. Being an '01 your fuel rail should have a cap on the driver's side that unscrews under that is a schrader valve. It can be removed with a tire valve tool. then the fuel will come out. But like mentioned just unplug the fuel pump relay and start the engine then crank it a few times after it stalls. That is the safest method. No need to crawl under the car to remove an IM.
Edit: see you got it figured out I type too slow!
