BOV Sounds...

Post by Project00 » Tue Jan 01, 2008 6:09 am

I did a seach on youtube for different type of blow off valve sounds, and I found that the HKS SSQV sounds pretty cool. But I found another one where it sounds even cooler. It's called a compressor surge or flutter.
How do you make this surge/flutter sound? and is it a good thing or a bad thing to do?
Has any1 tried this in their car?

Surge is BAD

Compressor Surge is the Reason you have a BOV. Basically, it's compressed air going back into the turbo. It Will Destroy it.

The HKS is nice if you like attention. I own one of the quietest BOV on the Market. Boomba.

If I turbo'd my car, I'd have to find the loudest BOV possible.

Thanks MoxHair, i guess compressor surge is just to showoff and get attention. It did sound pretty bad a$$ though...hehe...but I would'nt want to damage something I worked so hard for.

Until you get harassed by the cops a few times.

Honestly the BOV I want is the one that WORKS the best. Sound is a secondary concern.

The one that I thought was the most *distinct* was the GReddy Type-S, with it's whistling sound, but I had it because it could be plumbed back into the intake.

Anyways, I will be rocking the stock surge valve with PTP spring. I had the Boomba in my hands but decided against it since I am stock turbo. already sold it.

What is the sound difference between the TurboXS Type-HRFL, Type-H, and Type-S?

Compressor surge is the sound of your turbo eating itself. If it's cool to destroy turbos, then go ahead and run without a BOV.

So... I was mistaken, and the bov I heard and wanted (and just bought) was the hks ssqv. The one you referred to as surge looks and sounds like the tial 50mm. It's supposed to sound like that, or all the cars on youtube that I found by searching for tial are going to blow their turbos.
