MPx UDP new style?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

MPx UDP new style?

Post by ZeroChad » Thu Jan 03, 2008 9:36 am

UPDATE
Well it seems that MPx has changed their UPD or rather, they just don't polish them anymore? I don't know, but the pulley and TB look excellent, now I just need it to warm up a little. No heated garage at the moment. Dang arctic weather.

Old Title :MPx 60mm and Pulley Advice.

Well, I'm tired of waiting for a used 60mm TB to show up, so I've decided to buy a new one.

I have an 02 MTX SE. Are their any issues with the MPx TB for my application? Would a Lorenzo be any better? I really haven't been able to find a comparision.

Since I'll possibly be placing an order with Modern, why not get a pulley while I'm at it. I've heard about the whole CEL at higher RPM thing. or is that just for R/Ts? Is the unorthodox one worth the extra money?

Thanks for your help guys, I've haven't really found much about the diffrence in these brands.

Since its an 02 you won't throw a code for the TB. Brands I am not so sure which is better. The udp I have heard will throw a code in some 02's both r/t and non magnum. All the reviews I have read about the udps say that the unorthodox is better quality but not worth the $100 extra. I personally am going to get an MPx instead.

Ah, no code for the TB cool. Guess I'll have to cross my fingers on the pulley. I'm leaning towards modern too. Haven't been able to find anything that really qualifies Unorthodox as being worth it.

I wouldn't waste your money on the throttle body unless you plan on doing major mods to your car. The throttle body will give you better throttle response, but won't do a lot for top end without a better intake or a need for more flow. On my magnum I feel better response but I doubt any actual top end power. The underdrive on the other hand is a noticeable gain.

Yeah I was starting to rethink ordering one, but I think the resale value will stay pretty high if things don't work out. Too bad we can't say the same for our neons eh? I think it'll be a good investment. Next up, magnum intake and nitrous.

MPx TB, pulley, and niteshade are on the way.

Got the parts. I'm pretty stoked, but its too freakin cold to be outside for 5min let alone installing some parts. Thanks for the advice! I would have never found Modern Performance w/o 2gn.org.

Man, I LOVE the MPX throttle bodies. They look so slick. I've got a Lorenzo and it looks kind of plain, but it's also from 4 years ago. So they've come a long way aesthetically since then.

The 60mm TB is a great mod, people like to bash it a lot and they've never even owned it.

I have it and it makes my car a fun DD. Throttle response is strong, rev's a LOT quicker and overall I think it's a safer mod than a freaking UDP

Flooring it in my old TB got me to around 2500-3000, while the 60MM brings me to about 4000

Cool, Thank you for the "real-world" review !!

ONE QUESTION: Is this on an ATX Neon, or MTX ?? ( I supsect you are talking about ATX.).

-1998 2-dr SOHC MTX= 57mm TB; Maddog STS
-2000 Ply.LX w/MTX = Maddog STS; CAI; 2.5 exh.; 60mm T/B
-2001 ATX w/Syked PCM + Magnum header
-2001 ACR w/SRT T/B bored out to 55mm

My next step in my car besides the brakes was going on the be the intake system, I'm sold to MPx TB now after seeing all of this but I was wondering what intake would I get the best performance gains out w/ TB\?
Heh.

I am running an ebay intake with a K&N filter. With the money you'll save from this combo opposed to an AEM is insane, you can afford hella more mods.

You'll get those, "a pipe is a pipe" guys, and the "OMG liek aem did so much r&d".

You just gotta decide which you are

aem actually does do r&d, and it typically shows in fit and finish, but a pipe really is a pipe. Either way, until you go major build, on an na neon a CAI is a waste of cash. Pull the resonator, throw a k&n in the airbox, and spend what you save on jonnymopar cradle bushings and booger shifter cable bushings for mtx's. You'll like the improved shift feel more than some shiny shit under the hood that heat soaks more than the stock intake systems abs plastic.

I'm sticking by my ebay intake. $60 shipped and came with a $40 K&N filter. The extra 20 was worth it to spruce up the engine bay.
ebay link

The only thing I needed was a breather for the Valve cover, and a grommet to hold in the air intake sensor.
