running with out a cat

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

all a cat does is burn any excess fuel in your exhaust gasses. It's unnecessary, but power gains are negligable. All removing it does is give the cops another reason to pull you over.

Unless its defective, don't touch it...
Its illegal to alter or remove it in most states...
As for gains, depends on who you talk to, some people actually have lost power by removing it....

I found dyno results on srtforums on the 3" single exit I bought with both cat and no-cat downpipes, the one w/o a cat gained 2 horsepower. That's what I was basing my statement on. Also, based on that, i decided that 2 hp wasn't worth possibly getting a ticket, and got a catted pipe.

I don't know what the results would be on an NA car.

Wellllllll... I will say that when I removed the cat and put in a LTH I gained ~8.5 hp - now, I do not think that I gained most of that from the cat removal, but yeah there are gains to be seen.

You will throw a code unless you run some sort of aftermarket ECU like Megasquirt, OR others like myself have run the sparkplug non-fouler mod which is hit or miss... which mine is running without a code :D

Bolt-on civic. Gained 3whp with a ceramic hi-flow cat, 4 with a metal high flow cat, and 5 with no cat. Your move.

Its not called a catalytic converter for nothing..... It actually reduces the amount of emissions a vehicle puts out.
