2.0L SOHC, turbo, and... what cam?

Post by Arro » Sun Jan 06, 2008 2:50 pm

Non-magnum engine.

What cams have you used with your turbo setups? Which are more or less streetable?

Not interested in SRT info for this question.

Depends on your goals. I just have a magnum cam in mine, and it works fine. A bigger cam would make more power on top though.

driveability first, then performance second. not some lumpy cam that needs me to feather the pedal constantly.

The other thing your going to have to note is the fact you have an ATX, you dont want to big of a cam anyways because of the stock stall on the converter.

If you're going MTX, I'd go with a crane 14. Thats what roach used with a ported mag head, forged bottom end, and a GT35r to make 404 whp!

That's funny. A GT35r has much more potential than 400. ATX, a crane 14 would be tolerable, but an 01 mag might be better for expanding the powerband.

No shit, pretty much anything in the GT series should do better than that.

Is there something between the 01 Magnum cam and a Crane 14 that's still reasonable idle but squeezes out much more power than the Magnum?

The comp 400 or the crane 12. I'd go with a magnum cam over a crane 12. The comp 400 keeps you in the stock powerband.

on a 2.0L? that's more than respectable right there...

I'd love to see a timing trace with that dyno run.

Hell, I'll be pretty darn close to that in a couple months on my 16g. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of tuning left to be had in Roach's car.

you redid the internals on yours? or are you still on a stock bottom end?

I had 375tq@5200 in a Corrado VR6 and a quaffe; I can't imagine that much or more in a Neon - beast!

Not yet... All I'm short is pistons and rings. I have everything else already prepared. Tax returns, and I'll be breaking more records. The year after that comes the bigger turbo, and if I can figure out how to pay for it, some 9 second time slips.

The #12 has a modest lope at idle and does change the feel of the car a bit. If you are worried about drivability, you should stick with the stock or mag cam. The only upside to the #12, with a stock motor, is that it allows for a little more ignition advance but it isn't going to do any miracles for you. You also have to tune for the overlap in the cam around 3000-4500 were it really messes with the intake pressure, but that isn't really a big problem.
