Trunk release?
Trunk release?
Allright I got a question for all of you guys. I bought my 2000 neon and it had no wing. I bought a R/T wing for it, and installed it. After installing the wing (which obviously added weight), when I press my trunk release, either on the remote, or the glove box....my trunk will release and then just close back!
It has done this ever since the wing. Now, that's the obvious part....the question I have is why do other neon's with the same wing not do this? I basically have to be at the trunk to "catch" it as it clicks to be able to open it. Do I need to get another release motor or what? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Try stiffer springs...you know, the two springs on either side of the trunk lid that attach to the hinges and pull it open. Maybe the SXT models have stiffer springs to compensate for a heavier lid. Or you could always double up the springs on one side or something. Seems like an easy fix to me.

I think the SXT's do have stronger trunk springs because I have no problems with my SXT whale wing. When I lift the lid about 6 inches it'll about knock your ass out when it opens if you're not paying attention.JeremyJ wrote:Try stiffer springs...you know, the two springs on either side of the trunk lid that attach to the hinges and pull it open. Along the same lines as the stiffer springs suggestion.......you could also try adjusting the trunk springs. If you look there are several holes for the springs to connect to. I would try that first, and then if that doesn't work.......stiffer springs might be an option.

Or you could always just take that r/t wing off, and send it to me.........

I agree with Josh, I would adjust the springs first, and if you have them as tight as possible, and it still doesn't work, go to the hardware store and get some stiffer ones. Just be sure to take one of the stock ones with you, so you can compare their stiffness side by side. I'm betting you can adjust the stock ones to a good spot though...that's just my guess. Good luck!EvilCreations wrote:Along the same lines as the stiffer springs suggestion.......you could also try adjusting the trunk springs. ^^What he said. Note that there are no stiffer factory springs. I tried buying them when I got my R/T spoiler, but there is only one part#. Adjust the springs, be happy. Trunk wont open itself, but it wont latch back down after you pop it. And as said above, 2000 m/y neons do not have the interior release handle as on later neons.

Man I feel stupid now.
Well I did a quick fix tonight and moved only one of the sides of each spring. Talk about easy...and I've been going on with this for over a year. Sheesh!!! Anyway, the trunk does'nt pop up as it is, BUT it does'nt go back and latch down!! I am going to move the other side in the morning and see what that does.
Not to get all choked up....but....*sniff*....i luuu....I mean.....you guys are great!

The 2000 Neons DO have the inside trunk release. At least my loaded ES has it.xenonneon wrote:Mine does the same thing after I added the sxt wing. 2000 neons don't have the inside the trunk release. I think we might have to buy the setup from a neon that already has a wing.

some have it, some dont. im glad my 01 doesnt have an interior release for the driver, because when the guy who stole my deck broke into my car, he pulled and tweaked every switch and lever in the front seat but he never got my subby cuz it only goes in and out via the trunk, not the folded down seats
