Gas Mileage

Have a question about how to make horsepower going the all motor route, here's where to ask it.

This actually reduces your mileage. When your car is idling, yes the RPMs are low but the engine is purely using gas to run it. When your car is slowing down via engine braking while in gear, the momentum of the car is helping to cycle the engine, reducing the amount of gas used.

Ideally when you're slowing down, leave it in whatever gear you were in until the RPM gets low enough where you need to push in the clutch. Downshifting through the gears is unnecessary strain on the transmission, and riding the clutch all the time is unnecessary strain on the throwout bearings.
