Weird problem

Post by afterfx » Sun Jun 26, 2005 5:55 pm

OK. Here is the equipment:

Head Unit - Sony CDXM750X
Subs - 4ohm Sony P5 10"
Amp - Kicker IX405D
Wireing - Stinger 4Ga

Ok setup is as follows. From Battery to Fuse (80A) back to trunk and into Cap. From cap to another fuse holder (80A) step down from 4GA - 8GA to amp. Amp ground (8Ga) less than 1foot to chassis. Cap ground (4ga) to chassis 1 foot for ground as well. New RCA's front rear and sub.

Now here is the problem. Subs work amp works and it hits. However sometimes the subs just cut out. at random and i have to crank the head unit to get them to kick back in . amp is still powered on and working no error lights or anything. they just quit and this seems to be only when I am driving . when I stop and put the key in Aux they seem to work fine.

it could be the speakers.......they can overheat also...or maybe they can't handle the amp.
are they hooked in series or parallel?

i have a 6 channel amp (FR FL RR RL SR SL) the whole amp is stable to a 2 ohm load as well as the sub side which can support 2 ohm mono. I tried the sub 4 ohm load ( one per channel ) and plays for a bit and then dies. I try it 2 ohm mono load (bridged) and plays for a bit and dies. Tried multiple cds i just dont know

Problem

Could be a loose connection on the preamp side of the head unit. It may work while sitting still because there is no vibration to break an already loose connection. Try another head unit if you can. that should help narrow it down.
