A New Hood for the Mighty Whitey

Post by sxt4 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 5:42 pm

Grip perforated SS hood paint matched to the car by the AWESOME guys at AA Collision. A little different to say the least. Cell phone pics sorry. Better photoshoot after my trunk fool of engine stuff gets back from powder coat.

Whoa. That is definately interesting. I'd have to see it in person, but I think I might actually like it. It's unique for sure...

As functional as it is, for releasing hot air, I think that is the ugliest hood ever.

This is one case where I would prefer form over function.

i like it man. i have seen that hood in person multiple times and it usually looks pretty good.

however, i like their first version better because it had parts of the hood that weren't perforated. hard to explain, but it looked like a stock hood with sections that were the perforated material. it looked amazing. i talked to the guys at grip and they said that it would be the only one because it was a prototype and they decided to go with the all-perforated design...

Hmmm...yeah, no. Not a fan at all, but if you like it, that's all that matters :)

You got one of those?! I remeber a post on these a while back but forgot about 'em. What's the weight? How would you clean it and what will you do when it rains (or snows depending where you are)?

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

it looks good to see it on a car... I like it. I still have that one pic of your car sitting on the side of the highway as my desktop background.

Keep up the good work.

is the hood as strong as stock? to me it looks like it's weaker and probably will crumble like a piece of paper in a wreck....

I'm still on the fence about this hood, but I respect the originality and balls to do that. It looks different thats for sure. I'm wondering as to what happens when it rains?

I have that same pic as my background...

The hood is nice but i would have kept stock or carbon fibre. I still love your car.

Although i'm just not digging it. I just think its way over the top for a car, any car for that matter.

Thats pretty true on all fronts. The aerodynamics are crazy, my commute isnt at 200+ to have to worry about aerodynamics.

As for the rain, 1st as said I live in New Mexico, 2nd Pit VIper has had this hood on 1yr plus with no problems, and three Its garage kept and I have 2 other cars to chose from on a rainy day.

I dont think you can really see the hood for what it is becuase i chose such close ups. From 10 ft away it looks stock. Its just up close you can start to see the holes. Heres some pics, i took earlier that day.

Thanks for the love on the pic, its one of my favorits. That picture is actully on the main dispay for SRTforums now. I will be doing another photoshoot when all the powder coat comes back. You are all in for a treat as Im going quite rediculoues. Ill keep 2gn posted.

Trust me Im not gonna make this car look like shit. I still have the stock hood, I still have the stock trunk for my molded AVS. I have a ton of stuff still to intstall and this car isnt close to being done before spring gets here.

Think aboutt this, all the mods I do to my car are in no way color specific. The end of summer will bring some big changes for paint. This hood is goint to look rediculos in Matte Black.

That looks interesting. Not in a bad way though. Can we perhaps see a picture from farther off? I'm rather curious.
