I'm going to be selling my 225/50/15 BFG drag radials if anyone is interested. I'm going to full on slicks this year.

Sunday I'm going to be getting into this. Car currently has no headlights either. Thinking of either black housing depos, or black housing projectors. Also need the matching black housing turn signals. I took the headlights out so I could see when I was driving my NYG.

What I need to do:

-Pull built motor out of my shed, get it to somewhere I can work on it.
-Change the headgasket/timing belt/water pump.
-Pull the old block and trans, see if the flywheel/clutch are damaged from me dropping a cam bolt into there back in September.
A)If the clutch is done, order a PT clutch
B)If the clutch is good, get an alignment tool
-Swap new motor into it and put it back together
-Pump 2 gallons of gas out of the tank, and mix in 2 gallons of race gas
-Order a wideband, and see if I'm going lean with the stock injectors (I think I'm going to be okay).

Of course there is more, but it's late, and I gotta get up early.

A couple updates:

First off: Pull a motor in any neon newer than 95 SUCKS ASS. My 95, I unplug the main connector, pull it out of the way, unhook the power wire, and I can leave the harness completely hooked up on the engine and pull. On anything newer, you have to unplug everything, and pull it up and out of the way to get the motors in or out. If i had the time/effort, I'd switch the car to 95 wiring.

Image

Engine is finally out. Only took one shot to get it out, I was pretty proud of myself.

I thought the built engine had a HG leak, atleast that's what I was told. Looking at the head, it's obvious it was leaking from the thermostat housing. I'll just a new thermostat and gasket and call it a day, so I'm not pulling it apart.

If I get the chance, I'll bring the new motor around and try to drop it in tomorrow. I do have to find a clutch alignment tool, and make sure my clutch is okay.

600TQ, 105HP. It's all grunt, no top end.

So, congradulations to myself, asshole. Apparently when I dropped the bolt into the clutch inspection hole, it pulled a piece of the bellhousing out before it got lodged inbetween the flywheel and starter. Clutch is fine, but I need to get the bellhousing swapped. I do have another bellhousing, but I don't have the tools for it.

So, my buddy Carlton (Ghost Neon) helped me get the bell housing on after I fought with the trans all saturday evening.

I get the trans out of the car, set it down on the ground, and the bell housing plops into place. However, we hadn't put the red sealant on it that you need to, so I had to pull it back apart. An hour later, we get it to sit back together, without the race bearing assembly popping out of place. We ended up using Vaseline as a lube, and to hold them into place. It'll be fine since it's a petrol based lubricant. I'll just have to flush the trans out when I get it back together.

So, I'm thinking, I should have the car running Memorial Day weekend, and it'll be a b-day present to myself, since my b-day is on the 26th.

So, I couldn't find a clutch alignment tool. So, what do I do..... hmmm......

USE THE TRANS AS THE ALIGNMENT TOOL!! YEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Image

I had to use a 1/4" drive socket to turn the 10MM bolts in there to line it up. It was such a pain in the ass. Regardless, the clutch is aligned, the trans is bolted up (with 2 bolts). I'm going to bolt on my starter, get a new crank sensor, finish bolting up the trans, and hopefully drop it in.

That's a nice plan and all, but...... My work just told me starting tomorrow for 2 weeks there will be "Unlimited Overtime", up to 12 hours a day. So, I'm working til 730 the rest of this week, not working Saturday, working Sunday, and then I have Monday off. Hopefully sometime in there, I'll be able to get this together. Maybe hear it start.

Just realized I junked the block that had:

The metal guard that goes behind the flywheel
My alternator
My crank sensor.

Hopefully I can get it back this week. I get out of work at 230 on Saturday, I'll try to work on the car then.

Slowly coming together. I have to "aquire" some more parts from Crazy Rays but I'll hopefully have it up and running this week.

Those are my "new" wheels. This is my 4th set of 7 spokes. This set came from Steven (neonslg09). The tires are Toyo Extenza in 195/50/15. They're going to look goofy since the car is still at stock height, but I don't care. They're going to be better than the near bald/shitty tires I had on there.

Bell housing carnage:

I still need to buy slicks for this car too. I'm undecided on the size. I can either get something that will be good for the car N/A, bad on nitrous, or a set that's bad for N/A, but great for nitrous.

It's currently 100 degrees outside. I'm not doing a damn thing. I just need a few sesnors, a 98 alt, the lower braket for the alt, the bolts for the alt, and all the clips and shit for the shifter and clutch linkage and it'll start. For it to run well I'll need bigger injectors. I need to make a jyard run but it's been so fucking hit it's stupid. With the nyg being down right now I might rob it for some parts to yet this one to Carlisle and fix it when I get back.

It started. I still have way more work to do, but the engine fired. Feels stronger than my mag head/crane 004 and that's just at idle. I'll probably have it on the ground and shifting on Sunday.

Got the coolant system, my ghetto ass catch can, and some othe rlittle odds and ends hooked up. Still have bolt the the camber bolts, and get another axle nut (not sure how I lost it). Also gotta get the shifter clips, and the clutch cable spacer, then it'll move on it's own.

Car is firing right up every time. Not like my last build with the funky cam magnet. It's idling right around 800-830. Sounds straight dumb. Sometime this week I'm getting my cat fixed, since it blew apart and it's rattling around inside the case. Should be good for Carlisle.

Well, there was an issue in the brakes that I didn't find out until the day before Carlisle. I let the car sit, I stopped caring about it. Winter came, and I had been driving my NYG. I tried selling this car, to no avail. Turns out, heydockyle wrecked his red coupe, and needed a shell. My NYG blew it's headgasket. I'm taking the built motor out of this, and putting it into my NYG. Kyle is buying this car, and putting his 2.4 into it, and fixing the brakes. All works out in the end. Needless to say, this is the final update I'll be putting on this thread.
