Caliber SRT-4 Engine and Tranny cutaway

Post by FTWNeon » Sun Jan 20, 2008 5:03 pm

I was up at NAIAS yesterday and I stumbled across a cutaway of the Caliber SRT-4 engine and transmission. Figure some guys around here might be interested in this. Give everyone a look and see if the tranny could be swappable

I'll post links to the high res shots as well.

the caliber is already out...a few dealers here in canada already have them

i sat in it yesterday at the detroit show...really not impressed by the shifter location...the inside is a bit too small for me...when you slide the seats all the way back the rails stick out...cheap interior (no surprise)

other than that it looks great....has good HP according to people who have dynod them...but definately not my thing

i dont like caliber, neon is a way better car to design the srt around. it might have good hp and a 6 speed manual, i still rather have the neon srt-4

Heh, I just took them all really quick when I stumble on it. I almost missed it. Figured I'd take a bunch of pictures real quick to give some of our technical guys something to look at. Then compare to our trannies and figure out if it might be even remotely possible to swap that nice six speed into one of our cars.

Since no one has wrecked a new SRT yet I figured this would be a good source of info.

Imagine having the 4.12 export gears for the first 5, and then a 6th for gas mileage?

Have you ever driven a 3.94 tranny on the highway? A 6th gear would be great....

I sat in one on Friday at my Dodge dealership. Eh, what can I say? After the Neon SRT-4, it is kind of ho-hum, what do we do for a second act? Having the boost gauge to the left of the steering wheel isn't too bright of an idea IMO. Cruise is standard (something I wish my SRT had). The six-speed tranny is nice. When comparing the window stickers it appears that the American/Canadian content is down by almost 20% when compared to the Neon SRT-4. For me, the bottom line is that the Caliber is just an ugly station wagon and slapping SRT goodies on it just makes it a faster ugly station wagon.

When I pay off my 05, I'm probably gonna end up with an SRT Caliber.

I'll have: 1gn, 2gn (maybe SRT'd), SRT Caliber, then an Omni, and the an (older) cummins diesel pickup, and I'll be set.

How much is the MSRP supposed to be on one? Google says 28 but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

I donno. My local dealer has one, I might go scope it out later, see how much they'd get one for me for.

MSRP on Dodge.com is $22.5K for the base model

We have one (Manassas Dodge in VA). Option group 2 car, sticker $26,970..no dealer mark-up (no breaks either :)

I have a '07 R/T 5sp...shifter looks weird, but feels right once you drive it.

I still prefer my ACR though

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

There is a guy on the SRT forums that already bought one and drove it straight to the dyno. It made 260+ to the wheels...I think the guy that owns it is RedSled on the SRTforums....

As much as I'd want to get a caliber srt-4, the neon srt-4 will still be my favorite.

VERY nice pics. I've been so curious of the bellhousing bolt pattern! Now... I need to search out the bellhousing pattern of the NVG-T350/850 to verify some "possibilities".

I'm just happy that the starter is still on the front. That (visually) is one big step closer to figuring out whether the conversion is possible. I can't imagine that linkages would be terribly difficult to deal with. So far (1990+), the shifter linkages have been nearly the same.
