Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

That the SRT-4 trannies are prone to wearing the shift forks prematurely. Is this true and if so, are there any corrections for this problem?

I have heard something similar to this. Simple solution, get one of Maddog's short throws with rod brakes. They feel cool shifting too.

Yes this is true.

They sell Billet Shift Forks now.

Its mostly the 3/4 Fork that breaks.

Yes, they do go fast. How they work exactly is beyond me. But, I think they just grab the next gear or some shit like that when you shift.

It's pretty much what moves the gears.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

They are known to break but it's mainly related to how you shift. If you shift gently by not over-extending the shifter or not forcing it into gear, then you'll be fine. If you're shifting like a mad man, ramming it through the gears and forcing it into the next year when it doesn't want to go... good chance you'll damage it.

Is there a fix that doesn't involve pulling and disassembling the transmission?

MMkay. Now be aware that I am looking for my friend at work. I own an '01 SE w/ the NVG T-350 in it but he asked if I knew of any solutions and he has already purchased and STS somewhere else.

T-350s don't really have the problem as much as the 850s. I'd suggest like others have, Maddog STS with rod brake. You might also contact Chuck (Maddog) and explain that he just bought another STS not knowing about his and would like to add the rod brake. He'll probably be able to help him out...

that will not prevent the 3/4 shift fork from wearing or breaking
