Interestingly, the now rear-wheel-drive concept will be developed on a front-wheel-drive platform from China's Chery Automobile. The change was made in part to meet toughening emissions regulations, the publication says.
How does switching the car from RWD to FWD make the car easier emissions wise? Seems like they're coping out to make a cheaper car.

^ GOD DAMN IT !
SO basically now the Dodge Demon is useless. I was hoping to use it in the future as a track car and compete with miatas and S2000s.

Dodge has screwed everything up since 05.
I mean its quite pathetic how dodge's suvs get 15MPG while citroen's full size SUVs get 42MPG in their desil version which can reach 135mph and is only a 2.2L diesel. (check the specs: http://www.citroen.co.uk/level4/technic ... &infoID=12 )

I think after I graduate I am going to buy a european car or an EVO IX. I can't stand the shitty quality and bad decisions dodge has started to make.

Ill bet they are gonna charge the same MSRP for the Chinese POS that they were for the original concept. The emissions crap was a lie, they don't want to spend the money on a new drivetrain for the car, they are cheaping out. Dodge is turning into GM, taking crappy cars from overseas and trying to sell them for premium prices here.

"the now rear-wheel-drive concept will be developed on a front-wheel-drive platform"

I believe it will still be RWD, they are just using a FWD Chasis.

China, Mexico... whats the difference

If the Demon Comes out and its a 2seater RWD sports car and they build an SRT-4 version of it that has similar performance data as the Crossfire SRT-6 then all will be good.

The difference is that imported vehicles (even captive imports) cause American auto workers to lose their jobs. Bottom line, no if''s, and's or but's.

Not all import vechiles if you base it on manufacture names. BMW, it's a german company but the assembly plant for the Z4 and X5 is located here in Greenville-Spartanburg, SC

Here's a crash test video from one of Chery's well crafted vehicles:

As you can see, Chery are all about safety over cost. I for one welcome any help whatsoever Chery will be offering Dodge in the manufacturing of the Demon.

Toyota, BMW, Honda, etc may have plants in america, so that is atleast a step in the right direction. However, the money goes back to their home countries.

When I can afford it, I will certainly buy American. Its just that there are things I need and chinese products is all that I can afford for the most part.

If it is sold in America is has to Pass OUR safety standards. So a crash test of some car over seas means nothing.

They will build the car and it will pass safety and emission standards otherwise it wouldn't be sold in America.

We support the one American car company that cuts more corners than all the others and you want to talk about how "cheap" a car built off of a Chassis from China would be.

yes, but the failures of a joint venture would also cost American Worker's their Jobs because the main company wouldn't have the money to employ them.

All and All, I blame our own government for not making it beneficial for American companies to keep things in America, for instance charging a Tariff on ALL imported goods, no matter what company owns/produces the goods.. Etc etc But that would never happen cause it would cause the price of the goods we need to go up and with our economy....

I understand your viewpoint and respect it.

The problem is that the playing field is not level. Everything is stacked against manufacturing goods here in the US (foreign currencies are purposely undervalued making goods from those countries cost less here while those same countries tack tarriffs on American-made goods making them outrageously expensive so we can't compete). As far as not being able to afford American-made goods, I usually just go without if I can't buy American (almost to the point of going naked since I can't find American-made clothing anymore). And that's a scary picture.
