INOPERABLE VEHICLE!
INOPERABLE VEHICLE!
When i got home from work today. there was a sign hanging from the front door to the house that said. " Today 1/25/08 am Inspector: McLocklin of the building department stoppeb by to discuss with you the following matter: Inoperable vehicle on Jack Stands MUST BE Removed or Stored in garage ASAP. Please contact the listed inspector ar 24hrs at your earliest convenience. thank you."
What the hell. how are they to tell me that i cant work on my car on my own driveway?

If you live in a development that has a HOA, then yeah, they can F with you quite a bit about stuff like that. Also, when I was living in Rockville MD, the local police could fine you for having a non-running/non-tagged car in your driveway, backyard and even in your garage (if neighbors complained)! Big violation of personal liberties I think, but last I checked they made it stick somehow
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Yep, if you live in a subdivision that has an HOA or any place that has a CC&R (covenants, conditions & restrictions) then be sure to read through those as those are the rules of the neighborhood. Like with ours, there is a rule where you can't leave any inoperable vehicles in your driveway. There's also a law here that all vehicles must have valid tags, even if they are in your driveway. If they are you must have them in your garage.

yep same thing happend to me in bmore, i had to remove my trailer from my property cause the tags were dead , i had to put the tags from my orange neon and put them on the red one and i can make the cars look like they dont run. I didnt know it was law untill it was too late, it sucks cause the only reason i bought the damn house was to work on my car if i knew it was going to be like that i would have bought a condo instead.

And if so, what is the "legal" method to sell one's car, in these municipalities / provinces / etc. ??Nutmeg wrote:Uh...what's the problem with this?Canada wrote:Nor are you able to have a vehicle sitting in your driveway with a For Sale sign on it.

The liability part is BS, they put those rules in place to keep out the hicks that have like 7 torn apart cars sittin in their yard from moving in. Of course I live in Texas, and most people think twice about trespassing on other peoples property. The HOA's down here are bitches, mainly because we live in an unincorporated part of the county and they can do what they want. Most big neighborhoods have HOA's. My suggestion is to move out to the country, get some acreage, and do what you want.
True, but then again you live in AltoonaChris's 02 wrote:wow, we`ve had a car sitting in our driveway without a plate or inspection stickers for almost a month now and we live right down the street from a cop

I live about 2hrs south of you guys and so far in 2008 I have gotten 2 of these stupid warnings the first one I was changing pads on the R/T and they gave the wrong ones so we took them back the car was covered and sitting for no more than 1/2 hr and the thing was on the front door. Second one was for the acr I DIDNT MOVE IT FOR 2 DAYS (sitting in the parking space). My solution:
1.) Move all cars into the front yard
2.) Tell township if they want them so bad to come and get them
1.) Move all cars into the front yard
2.) Tell township if they want them so bad to come and get them

I deal with HOAs everyday. We get fined for having a soda machine at a driveway. They'll fine you if your grass is too brown or your tree is dying. They also fine you for having your trash out at the wrong time of day and parking at a wrong spot. Then they raise your fees if other houses foreclosed in the same neighborhood. HOA sucks; they want nothing but money. Reason for their existence is to have all houses "consistent" to have appreciating value.

It all depends on your area, some areas, mostly rural areas don't have rules like this unless you're in a neighborhood/subdivision. If you're out in the country with some acreage like zerocoolok said, you most likely won't have a problem unless there is a county law saying you can't. I doubt it's a Liablity thing either, they aren't the ones liable for it if someone gets hurt. I think it's pretty much what zerocoolok also said where it keeps rednecks out that want to park their 84 Camaro in their front yard on blocks while they spend the next 10 years restoring it or droppin in that new motor they've been saving for these past 20 years.
Personally, I like HOAs when they work... we've lived in a subdivison that didn't have one and every house was for the most part great on the street but the people diagnoal from us were utter trash and total rednecks. Growing up there would always be piles of shit on the side of their house under their carport until one day it caught on fire and nearly burnt the entire house down. They'd park their cars or huge lifted truck in their front yard and not cut their grass sometimes... it was trash when everyone elses house was nice looking. That right there brought the property values down... Now we live in a neighborhood that has an HOA (while be it a shitty one since the people running it are total morons) but it's an HOA none the less and can help protect the property values so people are required to keep their house and property looking presentable... Yeah, some things I don't like about them but just have to keep in mind that they're looking out for everyones best interest. That way if you decide to sell your house, you can get as much as you can for it so your neighbor 2 houses down doesn't cause you to loose a sale or get a lower amount because he can't park his car in the driveway like everyone else.

I most of MD you can't have an unregistered car parked on a public street, some places you can get away with it in the backyard, in a garage is fine in most places. One simple way around if must keep the car in the driveway is to back it in since the registration is on the back of the car in MD, cover it and start up on occassion. My step dad had a guy from the HOA arrested for trespassing when he came around snooping at his classic mustang he had in the driveway and wanted to make sure the tags were legit. Step Dad then told the HOA if they wanted to know to give him a written request 2 weeks in advance and he would provide the time for them to inspect his car.Trinity wrote:im sure there are laws like that where I am but yeah.. unless someone complains its no biggie.
my 1gn is totally sitting without plates... and a buncha other parts in a garage in CP... but no one is complaining. lol

This is what i got in the mail today.
"No person shall keep park or store a vehicle in any residential district other than in a completely enclosed building, unless the vehicle is in operating condition, properly licensed and capable of performing the transportation function for which it was manufactured. The purpose of this section is prevent the accumulation of junk motor vehicles and therefore it shall not apply to any motor vehicle ordinarily used. But temporarily out of running condition.
i.e.
Black 4 door on tack stands must be currently licensed and operable stored in an enclosed building or removed from the property.
Please make correction prior to 02/15/2008"
so he found something to get me on. #$@# HIM. WAHT AN ASS!!

That sucks man, it all depends on your neighbours in these situations. I'm pretty lucky so far. For example, I live in a condo, and i have my neon on blocks with a cover over it, and even the head condo association lady doesn't mind. (but i think she wants to jump my bones...lol) I also have my bimmer, which i currently rolled, has two flat tires, no windshield, etc. sitting in the visitor parking.
I was also given a dodge colt, which is sitting on the road without a distributor at the moment, and i just put my plate from the neon on it.
so far so good
