550/600whp?

Post by JRT-4 » Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:51 pm

I am doing a srt swap. I am trying to find the best turbo/turbokit to be able to put down 550-600whp. Any ideas yall have would help me try to plan this project out thanks.

Big Ass Turbo. Your best bet is to check DCR's stuff and SRT forums. There is only one person here that I know of that is anywhere close to that power output.

What he said. You're going to be looking at a 60trim at the least, with probably a custom turbine and compressor wheel, a shit ton of fuel, and at least 40+ pounds of boost. You might need nitrous to hit the 600 mark.

You're probably looking at over 8k in parts, on the conservative side.

Frank, who are you talking about being the closest to that mark? Is it our resident stage 3r whore? Cause I'm thinking about trying to pass his mark on stock turbo  spray ftw.

Oh boy. Well, my goal is 650 next year, and I plan to do it with a Bullseye S362. The turbo should be good to 700 or so.

(Yes, so for those that have been wondering why I have 1680cc injectors, this should be a clue.)

 Even the best tuning still means mileage lost if you're making decent power over stock. I don't think he was implying you were running pig rich, just that to make the extra power you have to expend more fuel. Period. You can only "lazy drive" a turbocar to a point.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

What do you plan on doing for a transmission?

...but not while putting down 500+hp... The new 'vette gets 30+ mpg, but does so by shutting down half the engine and sipping on gas.

I couldn't drive something with a decent amount of power and keep my foot out of it....it's just too fun.

I'm getting 23 or so with e85, so 29 or so on gas, with my foot in it a lot of the time at the 230-240 I did on the stock motor. Of course, running the pig at 500hp for miles straight would result in like 5mpg, but then you're also doing like 200mph, and that's just not practical. Remember that the more power you make, the faster the run to 100mph is over with.

wow...that is going to be a crazy amount in a FWD car. Go turbo lag!

A lot of guys that run a well-tuned 50 trim get better gas mileage than a stock srt. It also depends on how you drive as well.

You might be able to go with a agp kit and max it out.

Are you looking for a dyno queen or what?

Thanks for your imput and ideas
Not looking for a dyno queen.
I was looking to put in the neighborhood of 550 to the wheels, this project will be built over a long peroid of time, but I was just saying 550-600 because I wanted to have a little head room when it came to the efficiency of the housing.
The motor we are building to put in the car right now is a 2.4L out of a 04 srt-4 with je pistons, eagle rods and crane 16 cams, as well as a stage6 p&p from howell automotive and a 255lph walbro pump, plus a few other goodies, and stage 1 ecu. I was just looking towards the future and wondering which housing to get, because sooner than later I will reach the 300hp efficiency of the stock turbo housing.

35r and a well built motor will get you in that range, there three srt's locally making power in that range and within a week or two there will be two more, i even think gabe is shooting for high 500's on his agp/bg256

the only problem with that much power is forcing it all to the ground.
