Some mods for my Neon

Post by Xtian » Thu Jan 31, 2008 10:20 pm

So I am getting a clean title Neon by the end of next week.
I will probably spend $4000 for the Neon and I will have about 900-1000 left over for mods. I want to get a some cheap good looking body kit and front headl and tail lights.
So do you guys think that this amount will be enough for this stuff?
I also want to do a cold air intake or something... but I don't know :D

For some reason, I thought you were getting an SRT. I don't $1,000 is going to be enough for a body kit, head and tail lights, and an intake. That is, if you are looking for quality stuff.

You can get a striker kit, CAI, headlights and a few other things for less than a grand.

True, but personally I'd prefer buying stuff that wasn't used and/or cheap off Ebay. Do what you want though.

even if u do get a kit and lights and a CAI ur not gonna be able to paint the kit
i say go with the mopar lip kit thats already painted, and then depending on the car u can save alot of money by just nightshading the tails and as far as CAI's go dont get one on ebay unless its an iceman, AEM, or something quality
good luck

You're not exactly putting these parts on a Viper...I don't think a NEON is going to hurt from putting an aftermarket CAI that bolts up the same as an AEM

No it wouldn't hurt, I just prefer quality. I like knowing that it's not just some "ebay part". I'm not demonizing Ebay, I found an engine on it, I'm just saying if you don't mind spending the extra bucks, go ahead and spend the extra bucks on a possibly nicer part.

I see your perspective....but I don't think the prices of the name brand stuff is justified when you can get one of equal quality for way cheaper. CAI, Catch Cans, Couplers, it's pretty much all the same stuff...

I agree for the most part. Like on catch cans. I dunno, I just like name brand, even if it's a bit price-y. Each person has their own preference. =)

Haha, I don't think you're the only one that uses zip ties. I used a few to clean things up on my AEM intake install. Ironic. =p

If you're going to mod the engine get the 2002, ECU is more forgiving from what I've heard from anyone trying to mod a 2003^.
If you're just doing show more than go, 2003, dress up the engine.
As said before, and espescially with bodykits, you get what you pay for. Sure you could get a $300 dollar bodykit off Ebay, but chances are if you take it to a shop to get fit and painted any money you saved will be eaten up in the labor it will take to get it lined up, filled in and so on...then you have to get it painted!
My kit was almost a grand with shipping and another $1k for paint.
The fit was perfect so they didn't have to do anything to get it on except bolt it up, then spray it.
Cheap head and tail lights tend to get all misty inside.
I don't know, I don't mind saving the extra $50 or $100 for a good set that I know will last rather than 2 or 3 replacements over the same time period.
Realistically I'd say your going to want at least $2k just to get started. You can pull off a decent looking ride with that much and some inginuity.

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.
