I'd like to know if they work also. I have 225/45 16's on now and selections in that size seem to be getting smaller all the time. The 225/50 16's on the other hand have tons of different brands available.

With the 45 series on a 7"x 40 offset rim, the closest point is the spring perch. There's a little room there now and a 50 series will bring the tire about .5" closer assuming the same 40 offset rim. I think they'll fit but it's going to be close.

You have them installed on the ACR BBS wheels though right? Which are 7" wide, not the standard 6"

I needed tires so I wanted to try 225/50-16's on the car. I called a local tire store and asked if I could try one on and if it fit ok, I'd buy a set. They said sure so I went down there and they mounted one on my rim. The first thing I noticed is that the rim looks like its not wide enough, I have 16x7 with a 40 offset, and it has that look where the sidewalls are pinched in, they looked shitty, a 1 inch wider wheel would have been much better.. I checked the size and it says 225/50-16on the tire sidewall but it sure looks a good bit wider than the 225/45-16 that they just demounted. They put it on the front and it fit barely clearing the strut and spring perch and it also cleared on lock to lock turns. Then they stuck it on the rear and the tire won't even turn, it cleared the strut and spring perch just, but its hard against the tension strut.

So what's the deal here? Is it something with these tires? They were Federal brand and they looked huge on the car, they most likely would hit the fender lips on bumps and they would probably rub the struts when cornering hard. The old Kumho 225/45's cleared everything perfectly. To bad Kumho discontinued this size.
