i have a stoooopid question (strut part related)

Post by NickKo » Mon Feb 04, 2008 7:27 pm

Hello everyone,

I have been working on MoPars and Neons for years and years.
So I might be a newb on this board, but not to cars.....

I was discussing strut replacement, with a friend.
Anyway.... he gave me a lead on some good used struts from an SRT.

While discussing the strut assembly and related parts we plan on replacing, he mentioned replacing the "top hats" with the struts ......

MY STOOOOPID QUESTION IS, what are the "top hats" supposed to be ??
What would be the 'correct' technical name for these, so that I can look them up or ask a parts store for replacements, without looking like a dork ??

Thank you in advance for any help, and for putting up with a stooopid question like this one.

The quick and easy answer is its the top part of the strut that actually bolts to the frame with three nuts. It houses the spring onto the strut itself and I think also pivots while the spring is flexing.

Hope that helps or someone else pipes up with a more detailed description.

Like Hudson above :D

Awesome, Thank you, Gentlemen.

I *thought* that's what it was.

I have always referred to them as either the Upper Strut mount or Upper Strut Bearing Plate, myself.

Thanks again for the help, now I don't feel so stoopid anymore. :)
