What do you think? I feel they could be reused....

 Juan insisted we get a picture. Now the head has new valves. No damage to the combustion chamber or the guides. Yay!

Now to finish the other projects

Um... there's something ever so slightly wrong with that picture, can't quite put my finger on it though.

Oh, the one on the right looks cleaner, that's what it is!

 It's good to know that the car can go into re-assembly mode soon. I just need to get the wiring harness finished, the polishing job on the manifold done, and get the rest of the boxes of parts in

Danteneon wrote:Good news, bad news, good (ish) news update....

The good news is that on tear-down of the timing belt system, the new tensioner I installed did not fail, and it was adjusted properly.

The bad news is that the alignment dowel on the cam is no longer attached to the cam...sheared right off :banghead: Since the most common reason for that to happen is because the cam sprocket bolt wasn't tightened all the way, I can only blame myself. I could swear I did tighten it to spec, but I was rushing a bit at the end of the job :(
the alignment dowel broke and the valves and pistons occupied the same space and obviously they didnt get along, thats why they are called interference motors

Progress...I haz it!

It looks like an engine again!

Image

A good idea of how clean the right side of the engine compartment will be.

Image

Image

Ummm...don't look at the left side yet...

Image

But improvements have been made there too. They are just harder to see right now.

Stay tuned!

Thanks guys :D The valve cover is very prettyful. I can't wait to get the rest of it together...should look quite nice!

And yes, the wiring looks bad, but once you break it down it really is quite easy to work with.

Yea the wires look fine till John goes up to them with cutters and cuts and cuts and then goes well where does this one go. LOL but he assures me that he knows whats hes doing.

It's been a while, but I have been trying to keep busy.

I'll start by saying that the intake isn't perfect. I would love to spend some more time with it to make it just the way I want it, but even I am impatient! I also want to thank Juan for his help with the sanding of the lower intake and the "added" part (more on that in a bit). Without his help this would take even longer than it has!

So here is the top mocked on the engine.

Image

Some detail shots. My camera doesn't really do it justice.

The other thing Juan and I have been working on...

Image

Image

I couldn't bring myself to put the engine mount plate back on without some work. Since the covers are long gone and there are no pesky A/C or P/S lines to worry about, the plate looked pretty ugly. Not so now!

Some shots of where parts were cut off.

It's actually starting to look like a running car again! Yay!

Looks excellent! Was gonna ask the same thing. Can you get things powder coated with a clear coating?? Otherwise won't all the hard work be in vain if you don't polish it frequently?

Yes it is, thank you very much, yes it did, I think so, thanks again, no way in hell!!!!

The manifold is "simply" sanded and polished. No coating on there other than Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish. I do want to get it powder coated clear, but I would have to some more work to it first. It still isn't perfect IMO, and once it's PC'ed, that's it.

Since it's sanded smooth now it isn't all that bad to touch up the polish every now and again to keep it looking beautiful :)
