Thoughts on new cars (Chicago autoshow FTL)

Post by titansxt » Fri Feb 08, 2008 11:04 pm

Not impressed at all with the evo x. It does not feel like a rally or sports car they make it out to be. It was locked but I asked to get in, one said NO, the other grabbed me the key. :)

Comments about the new Challenger, I woulkd take it over the new Camaro but the interior is the same garbage material from the Charger/300.

Csrt-4. I call it one giant blind spot and I HATE the interiors on all the Chyslers now.

The new Hyundai RWD "Tiburon replacement" looks amazing!

The new STi, I'll pass.

GT-R. Over priced but very well thought out. Many of these new cars are lacking IMO. Way over priced with crap interiors, or way over priced by passing that whole middle aged WSM market.

The Bullitt, thats like the 40th Mustang remake in the past two years?

Crappy rant, any one else here with me?

I wasn't impressed by anything but the audi R8 and the ford gt500kr at the d.c. Auto show. I couldn't even find the new camaro, and no zr1 corvette.

I had already driven a caliber srt-4, it sucked on the road.

Saw the R8, liked it.

ZR1, looks very similar to the current vette and those really don't do much for me.

I just want to see what 600 stock horsepower feels like in a fiberglass car.

The idea of the Bullitt is nothing new. Ford has made a Bullitt a few times.

I am quite upset about the production changes for the challenger. I was going to buy one when the 6 speed came out but now I'm not so sure. It still looks nice on the outside but the inside is crap. It looks cheap and it is cheap. I want the ribbed leather seats and an old school looking steering wheel. I know it's coming out on the charger/300 line but damn it...

As for the CSRT-4, there is one at the local dodge dealer I want to play with. I still hate them and I want to see what it actually has compaired to my car. It's prolly going to drive like a bus.

I hate the stock 20's on the new Challenger SRT. And it doesn't even look like anything smaller will even fit on the front. If I ever get one I'll be downgrading to smaller front brakes! I really hate all of the accesories/electronics and stuff too that come standard on the SRT-8's. I sincerly hope a striped down ACR version will be offered whiles still keeping the 6.1L.

Nothing will ever compar to the SRT-4 Neon... even if it's got 425hp. :tardbang:

Kind of like an ACR but not street legal so thats a bit of a bummer.

Here's an interesting tidbit on the GT-R too...

I think the R8 is the best car comming out. Especially with the desiel version having the Audi A10 lemans engine. You can't beat a car like that having 700ft-lbs of torque and getting 24MPG.

I would defintiely wait for a manual for the SRT8. The guy I was talking to said there was a good possiblity of some sort of enthusiest package (maybe ACR) with a manual tranny. I agree with everybody else about the interior. I was so disappointed when I saw it was a copy of the 300 and charger interior. i was expecting some retro styling with ribbed buckets and a floor style shifter. To me, the neon srt-4 has more in common with the old challenger then the new one does, at least in spirit and purpose. I seriously hope they release a vanishing point challenger though. I would be on the list for that in a heart beat. I drove the CSRT-4, what a dissapointment. Wrong platform for that car. i think the avenger would have been a better choice.

I like the looks of that Hyundai RWD Tiburon. :D If they make it with the 3.7L 260+ hp, would be an awesome car when coupled with their 6 speed  I'd rock one :D

Maybe someone can design a set of retro seats and a new steering wheel...That would help out the looks of the Challenger.

I would love to see an ACR challenger.

I went to the Baltimore auto show. I was not thrilled with any of the cars there, as in a cool factor. I did see some options for a family car for my fiance.

Yeah you'd think for a 40k+ car Dodge would at least not use a parts bin steering wheel and gauge overlays, although I can't really say I'm surprised. The interior looks the same as all their other 4000+ pound cars.

dominiaa - what did that thing drive like? Did it feel like a bus?
I went to drive it after my original SRT-4 was totaled. First of all the dealer was big D bag, and was like" I have to ok it with my manager to drive it, we don't let a lot of people”. I was ok with that, I understand why they don’t want a lot of people driving it, but then he asked me to only make right hand turns. I couldn’t believe the hard time they were giving me, when I came from driving a faster version of the SRT-4. I also let him know that I had been at the SRT track experience in Watkins glen and had driven around SRT-8’s at 120+ miles an. As far as driving, the acceleration was disappointing to say the least. Not only was it slower, but the traction control using braking instead of an LSD was terrible. Every time I tried hammering on it, she walked sideways pretty badly. It reminded me of my Ion redline that I owned all of 5 months. The handling was alright, but also nothing great. It certainly felt like a stiffer suspension than my SRT-4, but it still felt heavy in turns. The high center of gravity for the Caliber really holds it back. The interior was pretty nice, and the seats were extremely comfortable. The poor traction, the wheel hop, and the weak power combined to make one uninspiring car for 25K. I think that’s the first time I flat out, just left the showroom after a test drive. I went over to Mazda then and test drove the Speed3, which was a hell of lot more enjoyable, and 2K cheaper. A little heavy, but the power it put down felt pretty good and the handling felt great. You can’t get them with a sunroof though, which basically ended my purchase, and so I ended up with yet another neon SRT-4.

Just as I expected. I knew they were going to be bad. They were trying to make a bus handle like a car. Thanks for the input. I'm still going to go to the local place to drive one just to say I did. I want to see what the brake assist traction feels like.
