build up 2.0 or 2.4 swap

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

I'm in this battle myself. I saw a built engine with nothing else...for $1800. I might just get that and a stg3 kit and call it a day

Soooo many topics exactly like this...

Depends what you want. If you want a reliable, no-tune 230ish hp, do the swap. If you just want to have fun modding a car, work on the 2.0.

The swap has much more low-effort low-stress potential, not to mention a higher hp yield per dollar, after the initial money spent on the swap.

i'm still on the fence on this one. do you like high revving high hp? then go bored, long rod 2.0. if you like tq'y low rpm then go with the swap. mook made 220hp on a 2.2 stroker at 8k rpms while jeffb made 225hp at something like 7k rpms. if you want cheap hp with reliability then just do the srt swap and be done with it. if you want insane n/a power then do the 2.6l darrell cox swap and you'll make over 250n/a!!! woot.
ooh...there's a glimmer of the dream left!!!

Lol man that was a joke amongst some friends on there...

Whoever had my car before me put a "VTECH TUNING" sticker on the bottom passenger door. I posted pics up on DF and it was a riot...

I bought an srt-4 and am in the hunt (slowly) for over 400 whp.

If money isnt an issue and you want atx, buy a darryl cox race-built srt-4 motor and darryl cox race-built 3-speed auto, and the other parts necessary for the srt swap and run mid-10's.

because it costs about 8-10 grand depending on options, and neon owners are notoriously broke.

Google darryl cox racing for their web site.

I'd pay 8grand for a race-proven high 9 to low 10 second 3 speed, if I planned on campaigning an srt-4 for a few years. The red sled is a beast.

His parts cost so much because he has no (readily available) competition.

Last time I checked his operation out, a built motor/trans was only around 10grand. If you parted out all the work it would take to achieve the same numbers from different vendors, I'm sure it would run you more than that.

Is the 10s car b-printed? I'm wondering duplication, but that's more than just engine. What are the suspension mods?

I read the DCR track times over at SRTforums, and I am very impressed. I visited the site, read what his putting together to make 'em, and I must say that I really like these DCR engines. Descriptions list pretty much what I would put together myself, and much more. I wonder if he'd build a 3Kgt stroker for me the way he's done the 2.6 (if I could do a 3Kgt/3L swap). I'm sure I could get even more horses from this engine with twin turbos. Its all the other mods that concern me.

Thanks for allll the input on this; its good information to know. I'm happy to learn that I can make my neon a 10s roller, without all the pain and financial stress I had previously dreamed of.
:D
