Well....poop.
First, the good news. The adapter is a great piece.

The ports match up nicely...

You can see here how Chrysler changed the lower port design...

Now the bad news. The top outermost bolt holes in the Mexican manifold don't play well the the adapter. The want to sit right between where they should be and where my SOHC mounting bolt goes.

Cleaner picture from a different angle...

So yeah...don't know what I'm going to do about this yet. It's weird, the manifold (and all older non-SRT DOHC) don't have the outermost lower bolt holes on them (you can see that in the last picture) but the top outer holes have the same spacing that the lowers would. By rights, the top holes I have on this manifold are too close together. The SRT and other DOHC have a wider upper pattern, and the lower pattern is the same as the upper pattern I have now. Confused yet? Welcome to my world
This problem may be fixed with a "simple" welding of new metal onto the outer holes and new holes made in the proper place. Not the end of the world, but a nuisance nonetheless

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

i say you just make a new adapter after selling that one...? will make it easier and you can prolly even make it a bit thinner to give yourself some more clearance for the turbo....? honestly i wouldn't risk retapping those holes b/c they are closer to the edge of the adapter and you might risk cracking it.... just a thought though?

The biggest problem is that the manifold itself has its holes right where the 2.0 mounting bolts go. So basically I have to open up the two outer holes on the manifold (really turn them into slots) and use a hardened washer to distribute the load properly. That way I don't have to change the adapter itself. It should be fine....should be
The adapter is only 1" thick and the whole manifold and turbo assembly is a smaller package than the SRT set-up, so I should be ok there.
You bring up some good points though...I had thought the same things myself. And plans are still in the works to perhaps make some of these adapters. We shall see

I think its too much of a hassle to get rid of the adaptor and start new. Take it to a shop that has a capable welder that can do aluminum.
so i take it that you're not using the srt head??????

The adapter will work fine, it's just the manifold I have to modify.
Here is a better idea of what I'm thinking about doing...

Sorry Joe, the SRT head is trashed
It had two exhaust cam journals that had bad wear in them (actual metal that was ground in). Other than that the head was fine

that looks realllly risky... specially since you are going to be running the turbo.... so there is gonna be a lot of heat back there, and then factor in the vibration from the motor... you are reallllly risking cracking the manifold.... and possibly not gonna get a good seal between the adapter and the head.... i understand you are gonna use a washer to distribute the force so you reduce the risk of it cracking but washers only go so far ya know? plus i always thought those exhaust manifold bolts had to sit flush with the manifold when they're all torqued down... i'd say mill yourself a custom adapter and save yourself the worries in the future?

See, that's the biggest problem. No adapter in the world will change the fact that the manifold holes are partially over the bolts that have to mount to my 2.0 head. The manifold must be modified.
Chrysler has used slotted holes on exhaust manifolds before...hell, even the SRT manifold has one slot in it. And the bolt will still fit flush on the manifold (well, the washer will anyway) so I'm not too worried about sealing. The bolts actually have a large built in washer that sits flat on the manifold anyway, so that doesn't change. Don't get me wrong, I'm not happy about this, but I will make this work

On that note...some more info and clarification. As some folks know, I am in the process of buying a house (YAY!) and I have been slacking on my turbo project updates...damn priorities!
So, the conclusion I have come to about the adapter is...it is made wrong...because it has to be. I will explain.
I know know the main reason the Mattdogg adapters were made with two pieces. It is because the lower bolt on the SRT manifold and the lower bolt for the 2.0 want to share some of the same space. At first I was thinking maybe it was something different with the Mexican manifold, but putting my hands on a SRT and a 2.0 exhaust manifold gaskets and laying them on there, I know for sure that the adapter is just made that way.
2.0 side

SRT side

So then I started to wonder. CASPERAMC had this on his car...how did he do it?!?!? I went back to his for-sale thread and saw this...

I know one side of the SRT manifold is slotted already and I couldn't see the other side in any of the pictures, but you get the idea. I should be able to do the same mod to this manifold to make it work with this adapter

Some folks already know, but my chapter of this turbo project has come to an end. The turbo parts have been sold to Limestrat. BRR will be picking up the idea I had (and BRR had as well) and hopefully will finish it with wonderfull results.
Thank you to all the people who have followed my progress to this point and keep your eyes open for the future of this "kit".

Sad to see it end but hopefully we'll see it get new life.
O btw do you know if BRR or anyone has made any progress in the PCM re-pin info or did I totally miss out on that info.
??? or did y'all just all give up on it?

I haven't given up on the pin-out info. My Mexican contact has a lot on his plate right now, so I'm waiting with you guys
I want to keep the info here up to date (so to speak) so others can do something like this as well

I understand. Heck if we are capable of re-pinning that PCM then Maybe we can begin to explore pin-outs for the PT PCM so maybe people can run n/a 2.4 or 2.0 DOHC motors without piggybacks to control fuel....
Just a thought thats all

He decided to end this project and sell off the parts last July.
