Ah nostalga....(pic heavy)

Post by Danteneon » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:28 pm

Talking to some other fine folks here got me thinking about the old days. I started a thread about what people were working on before their current car. I was digging out all the old pics of my previous projects, and since I have a scanner, I put it to use. Just in case anyone cares about my old days :D Enjoy...

Actually my 3rd car, but first project. '69 Newport 4dr sedan, 383 2bbl

Spring of '91 (my son looking confused)

Image

My brother and I doing nothing under the hood...just posing (me on the right)

Image

Next, '74 Satellite Sebring Plus 2dr hardtop, 318 2bbl

My ex, son and brother

Image

Some body work...

Image

Needed a fender...

Image

Remember the Newport? Yay doner.....

Image

Image

Looks better here....

Flat black makes everything look better....

After the transplant (I could do a whole how-to on this swap alone, fun!)

Image

At the track. He was slower.

Image

Image

I blew both head gaskets on that run. Had to drive it from Hagerstown to Rockville that way :(

Next, '85 600 2dr 2.2 Turbo

Image

Again, at the track

Image

Image

I was racing my brothers brand new '93 Shadow 3.0. I won.

I wish I had pics of the progress made on that car. Built a Super 60 turbo motor for it, and had the engine compartment painted. Didn't get much further though. Sold all of that.

Next came the '84 Omni, 2.2 carb. No A/C, P/S, nothing.

Image

Image

It was my track bitch for quite a while. Then I wanted to make her pretty.

Purple gel-coat FTW!

Image

Image

And I wanted to go road racing!

At Summit Point WV

Image

Image

This was at Mopars at the Point with the Car Guys driving school.

Image

I thought my instructor was going to soil my seat when this Neon spun in front of us. We couldn't see through all the dust, and he was yelling "Slow down, slow down!". I said "We're fine."...we were.

The finished product

The last was at the Reed Brothers car show, next to my bro's Shadow. I tied for first in the late model class, but since I worked there, I didn't think I should take the trophy.

I still have this car, but no pics of the current engine set up. The car has sat for 5 years now...I have to figure out what I'm going to do with it.

There were others after the Omni, but nothing I have pics of. Besides, I have wasted enough of everyones time :) It was nice getting all these in one place though.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Man, I love all of 'em. Brings back memories of my brother's '74 Roadrunner. His was the same color as that fender you replaced.

Hey... is that the ass end of an old Scamp in the background of one of the "Omni finished product" pictures?

I love Neons. If the Omni runs, I want it. Not like I have anywhere to store it, or work on it, or the time to work on it, but I want it!!!!

Thanks Jonny! And the truck is actually my buddy's D-50.

Yep, it runs, but doesn't move very well. I believe I blew up the throw-out bearing. It has been sitting a long time. It will be dismantled soon :( While the body still looks good, it has rust under the paint in hard to repair areas, as well as rotting floor and rail issues. I need a good donor body to put the wicked mechanicals into. Or just sell off the pieces.

Very nice Chris! I like the story about the Charger. Good to know the car is alive and kicking ass :D

Did you ever do anything to the K-Wagon? I would so love to do a Super 60 in a wagon

If vntned (Ned) comes to Carlisle, there will be four of us old school FWD guys there to geek out on this stuff :D
