Tire suggestions??

Post by Kevin_GP » Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:13 pm

17x7 wheels, thinking 215/40/17, I have Toyo Proxies 4 now and I like them ok, I am looking for a summer performance tire (wet/dry only, no snow), and I want to keep the tread wear around 300 and the price around 100. Any suggestions? I know tires change all the time and its hard to keep up to date with, I was thinking Yokohama Parada spec 2 or AVS ES 100.

I know this is an open ended topic but I should be putting down close to 300 hp/tq now and need new tires.

I am liking my Kumho SPT's so far. I haven't run them enough to determine tire life since they cannot be run near freezing temps, so they are stored for the winter. 3 season tires only.

Just in case you haven't looked at them before.

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Ahhh sweet, thanks. I just want a summer tire because my car will never see snow, ever. I don't care about tire noise or harshness or anything like that, I just want wet/dry performance with an ok tread ware. I can't pop for a new set of tires every 8 months. I wanted a 215/40 because I think thats about as wide as I can go on a 7 inch rim and not have to step up to a 45 sidewall (what I don't want to do).

I have these also in 225/45/ 16, they're 3rd set of tires I've had on the car. They replaced the BF Goodrich g force sports I had on just before these and they're better than the BFG's. They're quieter, smoother riding, respond better to steering inputs than the BFG's and they're better in the wet.

To bad Tire Rack stopped carrying them in the 225/45/16 size.

Get an Extreme Performance Tire like the Bridgestone Potenza RE01R, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1, Kumho MX, or the BFG KD T/A

stay away from the pradas someone on the forum had sizing issues with them in that size with a 7" rim.

Id recommend Falken AZENIS. They are $99 a tire and are just amazing in the wet/dry. As it is usually used as an autox tire u can expect some really good handling from these tires. Tread wear is a little low for u tho at 200.

if u ahve the money go with BFG KDWs. Overall better tire than the Azenis but more expensive ($134). They have 300 tread wear but tend to be just as sticky as the Azenis.

For myself, i couldn't decide which was better so i bought 2 of each as my summer setup in a 215/40/17size.
