I didnt get the pistons and rods and I payed $300 for the main part (mag head) of my swap. Havent quite a few other people started on mag swap recently?Hudson_Neon wrote:what do you mean?bone-yard-racing wrote:The 01 is actualy a little better than a 12 from what I understand. This place has turned into $300 magnum swap hell
$300 for mag setup
$300 for pistons and rods
$a bunch more for supporting parts

oh, got ya.
well i'm bumping up the start date by a week. i'm pullin her in tomorrow and goin from there. it's gonna be slow at first cause i'm in the middle of making a CC for somebody, but as soon as i get that done i'll be cruisin. the reason? cause the last 3 days of my original build time is now gonna be used to make some extra $$. the camp that i worked at last summer needs me to help host an event.
it's a good thing that i have the duster cause now i can slow down a wee bit and make sure i don't screw anything up... yes, 2 weeks of duster driving. oh i can't wait

well some of you wanted to see the upper samco hose on, so here it is...

there's a slight twist on the left side

it kinda sits a little different

the right side seems unchanged

got pretty far on the project tonight. i got a good feeling about this. after tearing down as much as i have, every nut and bolt still is accounted for.
new water pump is in.

head's off, mateing surface all cleaned up. i took the time to measure the ports on the ports on my pacesetter header... 1 3/4". which is much larger than the mag head exhaust ports.

mag head is all set to bolt right on.

last shot of the garage for the night cause i was gettin tired and didn't wanna start screwin stuff up

it's runnin a little rough though. i don't know if it's cause of the cam and compression or what. i have a litle time to work the bugs out still.

well i didn't get new rod bearings. i double checked the plastigauge and everything was good. i pulled the valve cover and there was some marks on the little shield thingy so i swaped it over to the plastic cover. still didn't help. i ran it without the cover on and it was coming from lower than the head for sure. so i pulled the head today and lowe and behold the pistons were barely kissing the head. i took a little bit out of the bowl and... ta da... all better. she runs like a champ. now i'm gonna be hittin up the dyno on april 5th and i'll play with the cam gear and see what numbers i'll put down.

No more CEL? How does it feel compared to the stock non-mag motor? Dude, if this is a significant difference, I may end up doing something along these lines...even though I'd love to go boost. I'm just sick of the stock horsies under the hood...

it's faster for sure. i know that i could probably get a wee bit more with a dyno tune.
here's the video. it's currently 15*F so in the video you can hear a slight lifter tick. it goes away when she gets warm.
