LIGHTS OUT?!? HELP!!! Spoke too soon...

Post by Kelevra » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:38 pm

Ok. so I get in my car to go to work and I turn on my head lights... they dont work and neither do my fogs... I toggled them on and off a few times untill they shot on. ok, that's good. I get to the "meet site" (we carpool) and i turn them off untill we decide who's car we're taking, it happens to be mine. I turn them back on and nothing. I end up having to hold the high beams in all the way up and back because they still didnt turn on after we got done.

now to sum it all up. 3 clicks on the toggle/click for the lights

1st toggle, parking lights and tail lights = they come on
2nd toggle, headlights = dont come on
3rd toggle, pull out for fogs = dont come on

I checked the fuses and seems like they're ok... so... now i notice when I turn the swtich the cluster lights flicker slightly like the headlights came on. am I missing something?...

Sounds like you have fallen victim to yet another MFS/harness problem...

Good info there. I would check into that area first.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

FIXED IT!! I held the high beams on and turned the lights on and it works now!!!

Now time to explain how

I went to the stealership and they wanted 85 bucks just to diagnose it!? WTF!?! **** that... I went home and opened up my steering column ans checked the harness and on the switch side looked great... so I thought it might have been the MFS needed to be replaced. but then I remembered that someone said about the high beams being on and they switched them off and screwed it up. so I held in the high beams and switched them on... and POW! Holy SH*T! it came on!

The wiring connection wasn't melted at all? I'm really suprised...but that is awesome.

After I had the MFS problem I ended up looking at the inside of my switch and it was burnt to hell and the plastic was actually melted to the point you could bend it.

I would keep an eye on it if I were you.

Ok. it happened again, this time it's fully diagnosed as the MFS and not the harness. I turned on the lights, same symptoms as before... but this time if i jerk the high beams around you can see the fog light symbol pop up for a split second there for it must be that the MFS is shot
