Doing a SRT-4 Motor swap into your Neon, maybe even a 2.4... have questions about it, what you'll need or what issues you'll run into? Answers can be found in here.

ES to SXT to SRT

Post by gski4life » Wed Feb 20, 2008 5:47 pm

Ok, I don't wanna make this too long so I'll make it as short and brief as possible:

I have 2000 Neon ES (auto) 3speed....it has issues and doesn't wanna crank

I have a donor car, 2003 SXT (auot) 4speed, ran before wrecked....I want to swap the complete drivetrain into my ES to solve the non cranking issue and compuer issues I'm having...

Next, the future: I do plan on swapping a SRT motor in next year too (just need to get my car running again), what all do I need to swap from the SXT to get her running and prepped for the SRT swap later on?

This is what I gathered:
Engine
Tranny
engine wrap around harness
fuse box harness (I'll have to use mine, the Sxt one is no good)
radiator
PCM
TCM
axels
power steering rack (its newer, why not?)
dash harness
interior harness

Ok, what harnesses do I NOT need to swap?

Hey Hey
How bad is the 03 can it be repaired if so repair the 03. But you want to get the 00 back on the road well install the 03 motor into the 00.now I would make sure that the 03 can be repaired (a cheap way is to see if your vo-tech will reppair it)now most of the swap is done the only harness you have to swap is the under hood .The clutch is there so that is done allmost.Oh we just remenber that the under dash harness is missing the tuebo gauge but that one vacuum line and tie into the dash lights but the rest is done you might want to check with someone that did a 03 to 05 swap

thanks dave...

the 03 isn't really repairable cheaply.....the impact took out the driverside headlight all the way towards the front suspention....and there is frame damage.....its too costly to repair it.

Plus I miss my baby, I want the 00 back on the road...

So I wouldn't need to mess with the dash harness? as far as the boost gauge, of course aftermarket is better anyway. I wouldn't wanna go thru the whole trouble of swaping the dash harness JUST for the boost gauge power wire and vac line.

Both cars are automatics

you need all the harness's to swap it correctly, the just swap the complete dash assembly and steering column out of the 03. You also need to swap the rear bady harness cause of that fuel tank emission pump.....

For real?

I kinda understood swapping the entire engine harnesses (fuse box and engine wrap around). But I still have to swap the dash harness? I thought the only difference in the 00-02 and 03-05 neon/srt harness was the power wire and vaccum line for the boost gauge...

So swapping the steering column is needed too?

and the rear body harness obviously because of the change in the emissions pumps......so I need to swap the complete gas tank and emmissions system too if uma do that.

DAMN, this is a lot of work for a weekend

I would swap the works, you have to pull both dashs anyways, might as well just swap the works, whole dash, if they are the same color...Does your car have sentry? If the key is gray you do, if black then you do not. If you dont have it then the 03 dash harness has to be installed. One other thing is the 2000 plugs for the heater box are different, I swapped the under dash heater core box also......the fuel tanks are the same, but again I would just swap in the 03 unit...its easier.......good luck....

shit! you said the heater core plugs are different?

Damn, we had decided to keep my 2000 dash in being that both cars have sentry key and the only other difference was the power wire for the boost gauge and vac line.

So what did I miss???
