2000 ES stock, 17" wheels

Post by Jwood1712 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:49 pm

Hey everybody

I'm just starting here so go easy on my forum skills...

anyway...I'm getting some stock SRT4 17s pretty soon and they come with new tires (BRIDGESTONE PONTENZA RE 050A size 205x45x17). Idk anything about the tires except they're new so I'm not gunna want to get another set right away.
The question is will they fit or am I going to need new struts or lowering springs etc (and how much affect would lowering do?)? Or would it just be better to get new tires

any help would be appreciated, thanks
Jeff-

i think to run on stock suspension you need 205/40/17's so it won't screw up your speedo now iof you do the whole srt sudpension swat then i believe they will fit but i may be wrong

those tires will fit fine. they are about a half an inch taller than stock, but that isn't too much of a concern. the speedo might be a hair off.

215/40/17 is dead on for matching the stock tire height.

how would the stock suspension mess up the speedo? lol

anyways i have 225/45/17 which is a wider tire and im fine. so u will be too. the speedo will be about 4mph slow so u are actually going 4 mph faster than it says.

no you didn't read that wrong, you just don't have a grasp on how tire height is calculated.

the 205 is the section width, the 45 is a ratio of the section width, and the 17 is obviously the wheel.

the ratio maybe the same between a 225/45 and a 205/45, however since the section width is larger on the 225/45 tire, the 225/45 tire will be taller.

225/45/17 = 25" tall
205/45/17 = 24.2" tall

oh my bad
i just saw that u said the stock tire was about .5 or an inch shorter than the srt wheels. and thats the same with my rims that are a lil wider and 45 series. so i thought that they would be the same hight. :( my bad

well thanks for the input...but the car should be a few miles faster or slower than the speedo?
my car already runs about 4-5 mph slower so maybe this'll correct it...that'd be nice but either way I'm used to estimating rather than watch the speedometer

the speedo should be only a lil slower still. if mines about 4 mph urs should maybe be able 2 or 3....so no it wont correct it sadly

it amazes me how many times i have linked this site over the years :) answer all your changing tire size questions forever!

the difference between these 2 sizes, 205/45/17 (stock for this example) vs 225/45/17 would result in the speedo reading 2.9% slower, so when it reads 60mph you are actually doing 61.8mph.

stock size, 205/40/17 to 205/45/17 results in a 3.4% slow down, or when speedo says 60 you are actually doing 62.1mph.

205/40/17 to 225/45/17 results in a 6.5% slowdown, so 60mpg on speedo is really 63.9mph.

of course all of this is according to the link posted, for all scenarios. real world things such as suspension, tire wear, driver, and god knows what else may affect your result.
