E85 or water/meth injection?

Just install MegaSquirt or some other system that allows you to tune your car or just have a question about tuning and the options available? Feel free to ask it here.

E85 or water/meth injection?

Post by Kevin_GP » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:12 pm

Sooo, in my quest to max out the stock turbo and eventually move on to a bigger turbo, I need to decide between E85 or water/meth injection.

I know for a fact there is one E85 station up here, there might be one more I am not sure. I am upgrading my MS to MS2 and I will add the ability to table switch (not sure if I need an external output for table switching with MS2). Downside of this is I drive my car to 500 miles to the other end of FL where theres only one E85 station not at all close to me. I don't know how well my tune will do between mixing E85 and gas all the time, anyone do this? I would also need to buy even bigger injectors.

For water/meth injection I would need to upgrade me MS as well. This option will work anywhere. I would need to buy a pump, tank, nozzles and other stuff.

Which one is cheaper in the long run? Which will 'work' :quotes: best in high boost applications (maxing out my poor srt-4 stocker) and let me add the most timing? I am researching both, I just want to make my choice so I can upgrade my MS all at once. Help me decide!

I'd go with the water/meth injection, to eliminate headaches of switching from gas to e85 and back. It'll also help keep combustion chambers clean and will help even more when you go big turbo.

Until e85 is more common, I wouldn't even consider it.

Actually, the e85 does wonders for keeping CCs clean. After 65k miles, the last 30k or so with e85, mine looked amazing. Very little carbon, and was what there wasn't all caked on. Light flakes that would come off easily. I suspect that was from gasoline, then being cleaned by the ethanol but not all the way.

But yea. If you can't get it all the time, I would stick with gasoline, and then race fuel for when you want to turn up the boost.

I figured the table switching would be a pain because I would never have 100% gas or 100% e85 mix. I like the idea of E85 but I don't like the idea of driving across town to get gas and not be able to make the trip home on E85.

Are there any water injection experts on here? I have an extra set of ports in my intake manifold (for either a 2nd set of injectors or nitrous), I have seen some srt-4 guys with direct WI is that a good idea?

I think I will just go with the best tune I can get on gas for a while, and set my MS up for WI for a later use.

Thanks guys.

Nevermind, I read into things alittle more and decided water injection would be a better idea. I have a good idea how I want to set it up with MS to.
