Rims - What Should I Consider?

Post by WiTeOuT » Thu Jul 07, 2005 6:02 pm

Allrighty everyone. This is a Poll. I am going to be switching Rims sometime in the near future. I am going to getting a Kaminari Turbo 03' front end, and a Kaminari kit on the rest of the neon as well. SO, KNOWING that I want to keep the White Rim look....do you think I should go wigth 18" or 17"?? Also, keep in mind this will be a SHOW car, and weight of the wheel is not a concern for go. AND , do you like the simple 5 spoke pattern wheels such as this...

Image

Keep in mind that wheel is just an example. Not one I am looking at, although not bad. There are not that many options in white, but if anyone knows of where some cool white rims are on the Web, that would also be appreciated! Thanks!

I personally don't like the 5 spoke design, I like the design that you have on your car now. 5 spoke white wheels would be alot easier to clean than say something with a lot of spokes, and with a show car that will probably be one of your concerns.

u just answered your own question...if you are building a show car u get 0 points for 17's these days if you have anything less than 19's forget about it :D

go 18's if you want but 19's is the way to

215-35-19....low profile tire..looks sick but terrible for daily driving..

good luck....and get rid of the white on white theme....scores you nothing at car shows...need to switch it up...are u adding carbon fiber? are u getting the Kaminari C/F rear end? what about the wing?

if so go with a set of black or gunmetal rims...

Listen to him ^^^^ ... he knows about this kit more than any of us

keep in mind that this body kit is really big
so bigger wheels are a better choice
and in fact almost every showcar I have seen with this kit had at least some 18's on them

at some point in time I wanted that same kit too but for my 01
but i turned into ACR preservation mode
Image

I have a few pictures of white neons with this kit
I will look them up . and post them here so you could get an idea

i think those five spoke wheels are nice

Hey thanks for the comments everyone.

At one point I did consider doing some Gunmetal rims, but I just don't like it. I know I don't get scored as well with White rims, but after the day is done, I have to be happy with the car. I am doing it for show, BUT I am doing it for myself. So who knows what I may go with as far as rims are concerned. And thanks for the pic as well....gives me a real good Idea of things.

To be honest, I just hate the look of Black or Carbon Fiber Hoods on a White neon....looks like a cheap wanna be ccop car to me. But ONLY on white. So to each his own....and thanks for all the opinions and votes so far!

"Cool" and "white rims" don't come out of my mouth at the same time. Now that I've gotten my personal opinion out of the way, I'll share a fact. DO NOT BUY EXEL WHEELS! After only six months, the clear coat on my Exel wheels had started to peel and flake horribly. It's been a year now and they look like shit up close. They make attractive wheels at attractive prices, but their finishes are pure garbage.

If you must stick with a light-colored wheel, I suggest some 18" Enkei RS5's. Simple, relatively lightweight, nice silver color, and five spokes. Plus if you want to ruin them down the road, you can always powdercoat them white.

i like the white on white look, dont see alot of that anymore, at least not around here. i only know one person that has white wheels where i live. this is his car
Image

18" Konig Verdicts, IMO, nice rims, and they would be easy to clean, than something with more spokes. i woudl look them up online, but dont have the time at the moment, i just knew exactly where this pic was

like richard said, get 18's or 19's.

like eddie said, this kit is HUGE! my 17's look small, they are.

i would get the cf rear piece if your building a show car. this winter im going to be getting it as well only for a show rear.

i would also get you some gunmetal 5 spokes like the ones on the kaminari car.

The Kaminari car above has bronze rims...not gunmetal. Bronze rims on a white car is the shit.

Quoted for emphasis. I suddenly have a weakness for bronze rims on white. Someone needs to buy me a white SRT and then I'll just put the bronze rims on it.

I say go for the 18s just because of the kind of kit you are getting is is a good size kit and if you get 18s that would be badass :)

if you get 18's get a rim where the spokes go out to the lip and not inside the rim you know what i'm saying? if you get rims with spokes that go to outside of the lip it makes them look bigger and vise versa with spokes that go in, it makes the rim look smaller, my friend has 18s on his srt4 and they look like 16s compared to mine

Im going to disagree, Ive had Exel wheels for almost a year now and my finish looks exacly the same from when i bought them. Im sure the finish wont hold up forever, but for the price I cant complain. As for the wheels, go with 18's if you are more for looks than performance. White can look ok, i just dont really like that particular wheel with the polished lip, white+the lip doesnt look to good.

are you going for SHOW or GO:
if your going for show, get some 20's that are a deep dish.....(if they fit on a grand am, they'll fit on a neon..
if you going for GO, don't use anything bigger that a 17",....

WOW. Great replies, thanks a ton guys. I'm gonna try and answer some of these.

This car is my daily driver, and will continue to be that. I don't drive alot, and I live in an amazinly convienient town where EVERYTHING (Literally you have no idea), is within 5-10 miles of my place. I have a work vehicle, so It won't see alot of action. BUT, I still drive it as a daily....so the biggest it will see are 18's.

I DO like the white rims theme (some don't and I understand why) , BUT there is just not that good of a selection in that catagory as I have found in my recent research.

I have found that I will most likely go with a Gunmetal rim, and something with a recessed Lip.....most likely 6 spoke. 5 Seems TOO open for me. So I agree with what "04R/Tneon" said about the wheels.

I don't know when I'll be ready for all of my changes. Financially everything should line up in about 2-3 months. I should be ablt to hit 1-2 good shows before the season is over....and then I am going to hit it hard next year just for some fun! Thanks for all the great suggestions!

my buddy has those excel wheels on his red 1g, but in silver, looks hot as fuck. he's upgrading to 18s though as soon as he can sell them... anyone interested, pm me.

EDIT: forgiot to say that those whjeels would look hella nice on your car witeout, althoguh, the ones you're sportin' now look good!
