Axle Question

Post by 2k1MotorSport » Sun Mar 02, 2008 9:48 pm

Since i put the ACR spring/strut setup on my R/T my axles have been clunking around. And now they are slowly getting worse.

I wasn't sure if the stock SRT axles would be a direct bolt on or would i just be better off getting basic replacements?

Are the axles the same for all neon models, meaning SE/SXT/R/T? And is there a difference between ATX and MTX axles? I was just kinda curious if i would be able to goto the junkyard and grab a set of ATX axles from a 2gn.

SRT are equal length so they're not compatible unless you have the SRT trans and there is a difference between MTX and ATX.

SXT are not equal length, the SRT are equal length... the difference is the ABS or not, so on the RT and ACR you should be ok. Check your CV Boots.

So what your saying is that the SRT axles should work on my R/T?

If I remember correctly the SRT axles are larger and have a different spline count:

If anything the 3 speed ATX halfshafts would be closest to working, but IDK that they will. the A604 won't just on the fact that there isn't a speedo drive gear, so the VSS won't get a reading. As far as physically fitting I can't say. Tho I thought I read that the axles were swappable in the 80's transaxles, but never seen it done... If I rebuild my Neon, and when the clutch goes, I will see if the equal length P body half shafts (3 speed ATX) I have will fit the T355. If they do, then I'll have to figure out a mount for the center bearing support.
