Raybestos Rotors
While putting on my lowering springs I noticed my rear rotors didn't look too sharp. Today I checked out some replacements and stumbled upon the Raybestos rotors at rockauto.com. The questions I have are that what's the difference between the Service Grade rotors and Advance Technology rotors and which ones should I get? I tried searching their site but it don't work too well on my computer. Any help is appriciated.
Not sure about that one. When I worked in the aftermarket, Raybestos had a silver line (cheap) and their premium line. The silver line was actually pretty good...we didn't have any warranty issues with them. If you are looking to go cheap, since it's the rear, you should be ok with them.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Don't feel bad, I put PowerSlot rotors on the front of my car and after 1 year worth of use, I almost failed inspection because the backside of the rotors looked like they were sitting in water for a year. Even getting them turned did not get the surface back to 100%. The face of the rotors were fine though...
As for my rear rotors, I'm running NAPA drilled/slotted and have yet to have a problem with them, they still look like new....

I *had* (past tense) some Cheap, "AutoStoned" drums on one of my Neons.
I was never really happy with them, as they seemed to fade when they got hot.
I measured them, and they were well within spec and didn't show any wear. They just wouldn't grab well ....
So, I went out junkyard hopping with "Maddog" one day last summer, when we came upon a virtually brand-new 2004 or '05 Neon in there ..... So I took the drums from off that car (cheap) and put them on mine.
The drums were SO new, that they still had the factory paint on them, virtually intact !!
Needless to say, with my "used" (Made in USA, Chrysler) drums, the brakes felt better.
Dimentionally, the drums were actually a little larger (on the I.D.) than the 'new' drums from Autostoned that they replaced, indicating that they had more 'wear' !!
What's the Moral of this story ??
The Cheap-Ass drums from AutoStoned were stamped, "Made In China".
* AVOID CHEAP-ASS ROTORS AND DRUMS, THAT ARE "MADE IN CHINA".
Go with quality rotors and drums "Made in the USA" instead.
You'll be buying better quality parts, and be supporting workers here at home instead of overseas.

Just get OEM and be done with it. Brakes are no place to cheap out. People seem to have no problem droping hundreds of dollars on mods but cheap out where it really matters... doesn't make sense. Well I think it has something to do with that mods are more planned then maintenance.daaboots wrote: Just get OEM and be done with it. Brakes are no place to cheap out. Ouch dude... I had to buy 1 rear SRT-4 rotor when I did my swap because it was warped, and I only paid around $70 CAN for an OEM disk. I guess it helps that my Dad works at a Dodge dealership but I didn't think the retail price was that high.tommigun wrote:... Good luck

Ummm, hang on...what?!?!? If someone quoted you $150.00 for ONE rear rotor, they are really raping you! The part # is 5085650AA...MSRP $50.50 (USD) each. It is factory rotors you were still talking about, right?tommigun wrote: It's just that I think 150 bucks for just one rear rotor is robbery.

Yeah factory rotors from the local dealership. The price is €99/each which converts to right around $150. You now understand why I'm looking for some aftermarket ones?Danteneon wrote: Ummm, hang on...what?!?!? If someone quoted you $150.00 for ONE rear rotor, they are really raping you!
