wideband installed- some concerns

Just install MegaSquirt or some other system that allows you to tune your car or just have a question about tuning and the options available? Feel free to ask it here.

wideband installed- some concerns

Post by Wenuden » Wed Mar 05, 2008 7:16 pm

so I just got done installing my aem eugo wideband. Of course, I had to take a drive to see what's up.

Idle is at 14.8-15.3. Cruising is at 14.0-14.3.

Wot is 11.2-11.3, exactly where it was when I got a baseline dyno done when the car was stock (the original owner told me he had wiped the safc2's fuel trims before selling the car, he didn't want anyone blowing the car up because of his modded tune, and Mike at Bwoody performance confirmed that when I went to pick up some parts up there. I havnt touched it since, because I have no idea how to work it, and until now, I didn't have a wideband for reference.)

Compression braking and partial throttle acceleration are where my concerns are. In gear, off throttle, above 20 in/hg vacuum, the gauge reads off the charts lean (it registers to 17). At partial throttle, 70-80%, in boost (12-17 psi) its reading 14.2ish, like I'm cruising, even tho she's running retarded hard. I'm sure this isn't a good thing. I havnt done it much (maybe 6-8 times) since I put on the agp wastegate set at 18 psi. I won't be doing it anymore until the car is tuned.

I know after all the mods I've done, I need to get tuned. Probably won't be able to do it for another few weeks. But soon. Until then, anyone have any suggestions? I had planned to go to the track for a few runs this weekend, and still might since she seems to be running fine at wot.

Your car is suppose to go lean if you are not on the gas cruising, thats not a problem. As for the part throttle boost, I dunno what to tell you, get it tuned.

The part throttle boost going lean is normal. It's a common issue using an aftermarket WGA. It is indicative of a bad tune, but there's not a whole lot you can do about it on the stock computer. Just don't part throttle boost. Just be happy the ECU is more than happy to pull timing at any hint of knock.

is that something I can correct with the safc2? Or should I switch to dtec now, as I hear its got more adjustability across the rpm/throttle range, plus the ability to store multiple maps, which will come in handy when I go big turbo.

I honestly have very little experience with either. I doubt the SAFC will do much, but I don't know what inputs/outputs the dtec deals with. It might work great. You'd have better luck talking to the guys on srtforums on that one.
