grinding gears in the tranny and probably affected the clutch a little bit. Unless you do it all the time, or held it there grinding for a long time, don't worry about it, you may have taken 500 miles of life off the thing.

You got past the synchros but not into the gear. I've done it a lot. It wears your gears out. If you do it a lot, change your fluid, as there's bound to be quite a bit of metal dust in it.

I wouldn't change fluid for grinding once for a split second. If I did, I'd be doing it once a month at least. 5th gear is a bitch for me.

My 2nd tends to do it when shifting out of first above 7k RPM. I've probably done it 50 times hard. The gear still looks fine, but there were metal flakes in the fluid last time.

I'd say if you do it hard about 10 times, it might be worth freshening up the fluid. It's not a big deal until you get more metal in the fluid than the magnet can pick up.

For an NV-T350, get the dealership stuff if you can afford it, or regular ATF+4 from the local parts store or wal-mart. The 850, I've never changed one, so I don't know.

The "dealership" stuff is the way to go, if you want better shifting... or so I've read.

The MS-9417 for the 1st gen MTX Neons is an UPGRADE over the ATF-4 used in the 2nd gen MTX's.
