Problem with spark plug tubes....

Problem with spark plug tubes....

Post by readersx » Sun Mar 16, 2008 1:50 pm

About a week ago i noticed oil on my valve cover...called a mechanic and he told me to take the ignition wires off the spark plugs and hammer down the silver cylinders all the way down because they were popping up allowing oil to get all over the plugs and valve cover....

I just got home today from a 30 minute drive and they were pushing up again. Does anyone know how to stop this problem for good...sorry if i didnt describe is properly..i hammered them back down with a rubber mallet but i dont want them to come up again...when i take the ignition wire off the spark plug..the silver tube is about 3 cm ontop of the valver cover..

any ideas what causes this and or how to perminatly fix it

Easy. Pull the valve cover, take out the tubes, clean them out REALLY well with carb or brake cleaner, use paper towels and Q-tips to clean the holes they go into REALLY well (you can spray some carb cleaner on a paper towel or Q-tip). Apply blue threadlocker to the bottom outside of the spark plug tubes, and pound them back in. Trust me, this is the only way that works, I've tried everything else with no luck.

In adition of some Epoxy for metals. Same used for radiators. That instructions + epoxy you need to have a car crash to see the move again. Believe me. This is the only way. Been there w/ stock and current Mag head.

I just discovered the same problem on spark plug #3. I hammered it back in with wick a socket and a hammer. That was about 4 days ago. I'm gonna check tomorrow if its popped back up. If it has i'll be tacking it apart and replacing the spark plug tube seals, valve cover gasket, cleaning the spark plug tube, and putting it back in place with thread locker.

I have this exact problem, if I did this would I need to put some silicone gasket sealant on the valve cover?

has anyone actually tried replacing the tube seals instead of glueing them. factory might have changed the tube seals by now or corrected them to keep them from popping off. We all know how dodge always sells upgraged parts every year for our cars instead of doing a recal. just like the mechanical timming belt tensioner was upgraded to a hydrolic one.

I'm dumb. Lol.

Broke a bolt off in my head today =/

Got 'er out, ordered a new one, flippin 15 bucks, anyone got one for cheaper?! :D

I'd say it was worth it, finally got to crack the engine open for the first time. I always wanted a good reason to do so
