Knocking Noise-----SOMETHING IS SHIFTING!!!!

Post by boxcarfan » Wed Mar 19, 2008 8:42 pm

2002 sxt mtx.

alright well on my way home from work today i felt/heard a kinda thump/shifting noise everytime i would touch the gas. and when i let off and do it again the noise repeats. the things i have done to my car in the last week or so is 1- i did an alignment on my car, just adjusted the front and rear toe....the 2nd thing i have done is moved to Charleston, SC which if none of you guys have been here...the roads are very very very old...and so there are pot holes, bumps, dips and everything downtown and i live downtown.

i can feel this shift on the floor board near the pedals and i can hear it as a thump or knock noise and when i let off the gas i can feel it shift back and then ill tap the gas and it shifts.....any of you guys have any idea of the things it could be?!?! OH! and i put sway bar bushings in...not the links just the bushings.....i work at lexus so its no problem getting it on a lift.....this shifting is kinda freakin me out a little....i hope it nothing too big...thanks guys!!!!!!!!

The rear lower control arm bushing is probably shot causing your lower control arm to shift back and forth, 4656012AF - $46.95msrp each....

Hopefully, it won't be your problem, it will be a P.I.T.A.to replace.

right, the "U" shaped bracket. if there's any gap between the bracket and the k-frame, it'll knock
