magnum head parts

Post by gabrielriley » Sat Mar 22, 2008 1:37 pm

I found this web site that has bare magnum heads for 2GN SOHC.

I was woundering if I could use some the parts from my stock 03 sxt head.

I know the cam is different and I assume the magnum head probably has heavier valve springs.

Yes. All the parts (valves, rocker arms, etc...) can be used on either a standard SOHC or mag head. And yes, the mag springs are stiffer than the regular springs.

you should try to find a mag cam and springs to use anyways, theyll be more beneficial in the end

im pretty sure if you get the 400 its not going to be at its full potential unless you have a mag head or port and polish the stock head. 200 youll see a substantial gain but then again it would depend on what your going to do in the future and how much power you really want.

I would love to get a hold of a complete magnum head. Its almost like trying to find the holy grail.

If I were to just put in a crane 12 cam and heavier valve springs in my stock head would it be worth the time and money?

If you can get the cam used for a reasonable amount then maybe. to buy all new stuff it is alot to spend for the gain. Unless you have the rest of the system to take advantage of the cam/head. The R/Ts are only 18 hp over the SE/SXT's and the R/T also has 3.94 vs 3.55 gearing so that 18 hp feels like alot more. I would gestimate the head/cam might give you about 7ish hp.

I do know if it matters but this is on a turbo application. Only 7 horse gain with the magnum head and cam! If thats true that kind of sucks!

Yeah. The "7 hp" would be for a N/A application. For a turbo car the mag head will definitly be a significant improvement. Although, I just realized if you're still running the stock bottom end, the mag had may be less meaningfull, because you'll still be able to max out the rods while running with the stock head.

I am run stock bottom end. I don't really want to get into pistons, crank, rods and so on.

Is a crane 12 cam and springs on my stock head worth doing?

It does sound like I would get some good gains with the magnum head, but they seem very hard to find.

If anyone has a opinion on what I should do with the top end of my motor, please I would like to here it.

Thanks,

Gabe
