Got a code P1684 help?
Got a code P1684 help?
So, the engine check light came on yesterday and stays on only when the car is put on ignition not started, but anyways what is that code? Is it bad?
Also, I have a problem sometimes with starting, it starts every time, but I need to keep holding the key for 2 more seconds than the usual time to start the engine.

Zu erst, sind sie Deutscher? Ich bin in Limburg a.d Lahn geboren ^^.
As far as I know, the check engine light comes on and stays on if you just put your key in the ignition and don't start the car. For example, if you turn the key enough to turn on the radio, my engine light comes on and stays on, but I'm not throwing any codes. Is that what you mean?

P1684 means the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 starts. P1682 means your CCA's are too low. So if you are getting the P1682 and the car seems hard to start in the cold, then get your battery checked out.
Also, if your car seems to squeek or shutter when it is idling, then get your belts checked out. The belt that charges your battery and runs the alternator and AC is called a serpentine belt. It is adjustable though so if it is off by a little bit then it may mess up your battery or alternator.
Hope that helps.

Yup. Thats correct.

Thanks for the info too, but does it matter if I don't have the AC?

Ich vermisse Deutschland. Ich bin ein Stuttgart
Kidding lol. I understand a little Deutsch but my dad lived over there for a while. He lived in Stuttgart.
And Xtian, whether you have AC or not does not matter. The serpentine belt controls a lot of stuff and can come loose which causes a lot of vibrations and squeeking at times. Check it out because it may be the cause of your long starts or battery problems (since it controls the recharging of the battery).

So, I did put a new battery and changed all the cables that connect to the battery, but still I get the same code.SOHCKing03 wrote:Ich vermisse Deutschland. Ich bin ein Stuttgart![]()

Just read a thread with the possible problems on the car:
Possible causes for throwing the P1684:
# BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED
# PCM WAS REPLACED OR DISCONNECTED
# QUICK LEARN WAS PERFORMED
# FUSED B+ CIRCUIT TO TCM OPEN
# GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
# INTERMITTENT WIRING AND CONNECTORS
Either way the code has to do with the computer and output circuits...
I believe it is the TCM or the wiring, because the computer wasn't replaced, but I just put a new battery. The car starts/works much better/silent, but still this code scares the crap out of me.
What if someday the car won't start?!?
I need it, because it is my daily driver, I don't have any backups or somebody who can give me a ride to college or whatever.
P.S. Today I went to AutoZone and asked the guys there to help me out. So they did erased the computer memory and all that, but still the same code over and over again.

From the other thread.
occasional demons wrote:1684 shouldn't set a CEL. does the CEL come on only as long as the horn is applied or stay on "permenantly" 1684 in its self is nothing to be concered about, but figuring out why the horn makes the CEL come on is another thing. The only thing I can think of is check all your grounds, even the mounting of your PCM. Granny put a hex on you!

forget about 1684. Mine has had that code stored since the third day I had the car, I disconnect the battery so often.
You would know if it was caused by an open ground circuit cause shit wouldn't work. The battery was probably disconnected at the body shop from your previous accident. Speaking of which, considering you've been in another one, maybe you should consider a bus pass.
