does it cut off when you have the door closed for a long period of time then when you open it, it cuts off real quick? could be the door switch. my car had the same symptom and i replace with a oem 05' cd deck and that fixed the problem.

na, it's weird...when I open the door the light stays on but when i use to switch it wont, and the dash lights randomly dim and become bright again, I think it might be a short in the column
