Painted the window cowl.

Post by ZeroChad » Thu Apr 03, 2008 7:14 pm

Well I finally got around to painting the window cowl. If you remember, it had gotten carb cleaner and rubbing compound on it. Heres my original thread. LINK

What it looked like.

The finished product.

I sanded the crap out of the spot where the cleaner got on it with an emery pad. I used the medium and finer paper over the rest of it. 4 coats of black and 2 coats of clear. I used duplicolor automotive. Overall the process went really quick. We'll wait and see if any fish eyes develop *crosses fingers*

Thanks guys. I was a little worried at first over how it would turn out. But I thought what the heck, It couldn't look worse than the original. Only took about an hour and a half to do all together.

Well done! Looks great

As a side note, if you haven't seen any fish-eyes yet, you probably won't. Oil based solvents show through the paint pretty quickly, usually during the curring process.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Wow! Awesome work. At first I was going to think it was going to be red seeing your avatar and I thank God you did not paint it red.

Fish eyes can be stopped in the prepping step, as long as whatever your painting is free of any solvents or grease you wont have a problem

I don't know, maybe a body-colored one would look interesting... Never thought of it before. Looks good by the way.

Thanks again guys.

Unfortunetly, no that is not the hood tilt mod. It just sits like that since restoring it. The accident from the previous owner musta pushed up on the frame back there or something.

Looking at it today, I'm glad I added the clear coat. Its noticeably shiny under the sun, and looks pretty sweet.
