help with popping noise...

Post by Jeremy M » Mon Apr 07, 2008 6:57 pm

I have a 02' sxt, with no mods

i have a popping noise that happens when i goto take off...i was thinkin motor mounts or something along those lines. On a few occasions, my car will kinda sputter and does like a little backfire....almost like it's choking or it's gettin too much gas.

any ideas?

Sounds like some kind of misfire maybe. Is the popping noise coming from the motor? From the exhaust?

If you DO wanna check the motor mounts, have someone sit inside your car, hold the brake and give it gas over and over, and check the mounts in the car for excessive movement and play

sounds like the motor, but it is only when taking off usually from a dead stop or close to a dead stop.

motor mounts

it is your motor mounts.. guarantee if u look under the hood by standing on either side and looking strait into the mount you will see the bottom portion of the mount cracked all the way up.. its from over revving the dealer says, but all of your mounts will be like that.. just take a look at them and you will see.

Try reving the motor (with your hand) using the throttle body. Or just get a friend to rev it while you watch the motor jump. Look at the motor mounts. Easy fix if they are broken.
