Clutch pedal squeaking/clicking

Post by Donkeypuncher » Sun Apr 13, 2008 12:03 am

When I push in or let the pedal out it makes a series of clicking sounds. If I do it fast it sounds like a squeak, but when I do it slow it's a series of clicks. I don't think it's inside the car because I can hear it best inside the garage or sitting next to a wall.

The clutch is working great otherwise, it's just annoying to hear the creaking noise when I push the clutch in or release it. It actually went away for 1 day, and it was a rainy day so it's something under the hood I suspect.

I tried a search, but most were having clutch problems in addition to the noise. I'm going to try and grease up everything tomorrow, but I figured somebody might have a specific spot to look at.

check the clutch pedal pivot to start with....if it is just a noise, then start simple and move on from there

Yeah it's just a noise, nothing that I can actually feel in the pedal. It makes me wonder though, because every couple of days the clutch will chatter when taking off in 1st gear. If I let it out slow on a normal take off it will chatter until I let the clutch out all the way. If I take off hard and don't slip the clutch then it doesn't chatter.

It didn't make the clicking noise today, but the clutch was chattering towards the end of the day. I'm thinking it might be the pressure plate or clutch fork, but I'll just wait until something finally breaks before replacing random parts.

Your clutch pivot might be the problem. Check if it's loose or something. It might be causing the clicking sound.

Damn, bringing a post back from the dead. The noise was actually the spring on the clutch pedal, so not really a problem. The chatter was actually a bad drivers side CV joint on the axle. It finally let go so I replaced it.
