Got my hotchkis sway bars on, then..

Bald tires much?

I don't really remember much from it. I thought I was clear (I was making a left out from the building with the blue top part) and well, I wasn't.. we hit hard. I remember seeing flashing colors everywhere. My steering wouldn't work so I couldn't go anywhere. Parts of her headlight assembly flew into my car. I got out, screaming "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck!!" and she was like crying. She was perfectly fine but crying her eyes out cause she was so scared. A bunch of kids were watching. "They were like wow your car is really nice too bad it got hit. " My left arm hit something and it's swollen. And I hit my head on the B pillar and it hurts a bit I felt pretty dizzy all day.

So I will hear back soon to see if it is totaled or not.. it most likely isn't. If it's okay I will get all the parts replaced and do an entire respray on the car. If it is declared totaled I am going to look for an 02 (r/t or not) but definelty 5 speed, strip all my parts, and put it on the new car. My projects are on hold right now. So, yeah..

We'll see from here...

Sorry to hear, car looks bad. So I presume it was your fault since you were making the turn?

Glad you are okay, with the location on where you got hit.

Yeah it's pretty much my fault. Her fiance is a cop too so it's like extra my fault. I wish posting pictures of the 02 front had been the case. I was gonna finish up my work on that tomorrow too.

Oh by the way, anyone considering Hotchkis sway bars, should get them. Haha.

This really sucks, I haven't been this depressed in years. I keep playing the scene out in my head, it's really the only thing I'm thinking about right now. My dad went down now to check it out. Hopefully she'll be okay.

Can anyone explain to me what happens when a car is totaled? How do I get it back so I can get my parts off of it? Thanks.

If its totaled, any parts that you have put on the car can be removed at the tow/salvage yard if you have an equivelant part to replace it with, unless you've had the insurance company adjust the insured value of the car to include modifications.

If you want the car back, typically the insurance company will let you buy it back from them after they settle with you.

I'm pretty sure that when the insurance company totals a car, they cut you a check, and then they "own" it. You have the option to buy it back (the amount varies, but it isn't too bad) at which time you can part it out and make back more than you spent, or swap your stuff and not have to re-purchase all your goodies.

Oh and Danteneon, remember when I messaged you about the L-clips? I went to dodge and the guy told me I had to purchase the entire sidemarker assembly and couldn't just purchase the L-clips alone. I walked out laughing.

If your car is low miles they may not total it. Mine was basically rust free, 123000 miles and the "fair market value was only $2400.00 I bought back the salvage for $600. It is now at the body shop. I will have to get it inspected, and if all goes well it will have a "rebuilt title". My main concern now is how the insurance company want to insure it when it's done. I've already gotten some B.S. from my insurance over it. Be prepared to bend over. As far as aftermarket parts it varies with insurance mine will pay up to $1000.00. If you have over that you have to buy the salvage to recover the stuff, or work something out. I'm sure if you don't take the $ for aftermarket and have the oem stuff to replace it with, then I'm sure you can get your parts back. All in all, yes it is depressing. But thing do work out. Man, that Toyota didn't fair much better either!

Wow. Just goes to show not all counterfolks are created equal

Did you give him the part # and he still said that? If so, that's just sad. I would say try another dealer (remember, it can be any Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep) but I guess that doesn't apply now.
