Clunks....

Post by mospaxreton » Sun Jul 17, 2005 9:14 pm

Ok, fellas put your thinking caps on... I am having bad noises from my car. Now wiered thing is you can only hear it from inside the car, and not the engine compartment... And before I go on. Trust me when I say I checked every dam bolt I could see and all is tight. Now on with the problem it sounds like a clunking sound. Constant then goes away very briefly then comes back.. clunk clunk clunk clunk clunk.....clunk etc.... Anyway a friend who knows a lot about neons told me he thinks it might be my Rod Bearing. which I hope not .. But give me your thoughts on this... any experiences ?? oh btw I have a MTX... The noise started two days ago and same friend tells me not to drive it too much till I fix it or else my engine will go bye bye. Probably send rods through the block or something, but I do need it to go to work...

p.s. its not the exhaust either I checked...

Yeah... Neons make a lot of "Clunks"... gotta explain more like if it follows the RPMs of the engine like if you were to just rev it or if it follows speed you are going.

Ok guys sorry for the "cheap" expl. but I found the culprit.. It was a bad motor mount. But I heard it only when idling, not when I rev'd it so much. But I just fixed it... all is well. Thanks for your concerns though.. : )

Good deal, glad you got it fixed, good thing it was a simple problem and not a bearing.

how can u tell if it's the bearings??

I've been having similar problems with my 03 and it's coming from the front of the car. Car is lowered, but it's not the struts. It does however make the noise when i go down off a curb, BUT not all the time, just ever so often. Someone told me it was the bushings because neons have crappy bushings. Is there anything in particular i should look for??

as i've stated several times on these forums before, bearings make a deep grinding or growl when they go bad.

ok, so it should be something that is very noticeable and distinguished easily from the ohter noises?
