Amp/sub help!!!

Post by QwikEVO » Mon Jul 18, 2005 12:20 am

Okay here goes....

My wife wants to retain her stock headunit so she can keep her 6 disc changer. So I've hooked up the amplifier and subs - power wire to the battery, grounded to the chassis, speaker wire to the subs.

I got two things left. One is where the hell do I tap off for the amp remote power? I've tried several wires off the headunit wiring, nothing. Where can I get the remote power from?

Also Sammage told me that I need a (can't remember the name of it) that takes the speaker wires into a box so I can wire up RCA's from the box. Well I have that hooked up, but I'm not sure if I've tapped into the right wires...

So far I have the wires tapped off for the rear speakers this way:
right rear + brown
right rear - peach color (I was told yellow but I see no yellow wire)
left rear + dark blue
right rear - light blue

Is this right?

This is for a 99 GMC Envoy btw

I might have been able to help you with the factory wiring, but...

For the amp remote, find an 'IGN' spot in the fuse box or some other accessory that gets power with the ignition and run a wire from that spot to the remote location on the amp. This will turn the amp on with the ignition.

A low-voltage trigger can turn on your amps with your headunit. PAC makes one called the TR-4.

Speaker-to-RCA is called a line-out-converter, or LOC. I used a Scosche from Wal-Mart.

what year is the srt.....if its an 05, it might have the wireing harness for the kicker sub (option), if so, you can get your power from there.

Who's talking about an SRT? Notice my quoted reply above...
