magnum manifold swap 2.0L

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

magnum manifold swap 2.0L

Post by preston75052 » Sun Apr 20, 2008 10:41 pm

i was on ebay and i noticed a magnum manifold on auction and i ask the guy if it would fit into a 2000 dodge neon with no problems and he said yes.and im wanting to know if its true because if it is im gonna do a swap for that one,i herd that it gives a little more horsey.

my car is a 2000 dodge neon 2.0L motor its not a r/t or the acr model, and thats where that manifold comes from.thier is alot of parts that makes my motor different from a acr or a r/t motor.so im just making sure guys. i can go with a venom intake it really doesnt matter to me.

Bear in mind that one on ebay is only the upper half of the manifold.

There is a guy selling the whole thing in the for sale forum http://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=30936

Better jump on it before someone else grabs it.

Hmmm, Buy it now price for the ebay one is $218.99 for just part of it, but $225 for a complete working unit is too much? :beatstick:

yeah you used to be able to come across these things non working for around 100 bucks.. now your lucky to get a non working one fore 150... i would say 200-225 is a fair price for a complete working one.. and he is a 2gn guy.. this makes it twice as appealing..

You will spend more than what he is asking to get the ebay one in working order, so I think it is a fair price. Sounds like you don't know much about the swap, so you probably shouldn't bother with it. I'm not being a dick, but you might need to do more research before diving into this project.

Personally, if I was going to spend that much money, I'd spend a little more and go with a AMM intake. :)

But you also need a core with the AMM so you still need an intake to start with...

The amm intake= all motor mike intake manifold. The core= your stock intake manifold you have to send him. Not sure if he modifies the stock intake to make his own, but why else would he need your stock one as a core.

Venome intake= crap, at least on the 420a avenger/sebring/eclipse. You still have to modify the intake to accept your sensors and there have been fitment issues on most cars I've seen. It aslo didn't produce any more hp on the dyno than stock, so I would be hesitant about buying one.

I would take offense to you reply, but I know where you're coming from so it's all good. At least you're serious about modding your car, most people give up and decide against a mod when they see it's not as simple as it seems.

Not sure about that magnum intake now, hearing that he was selling a muffler with rats and cat food in it kind of makes me weary. How do you know it's functional until you install it and find out the hard way.

I've heard a lot of good things about the amm intake, so that may be the best route to take.

Not sure but I think AMM wants/needs a metal intake as a core, and since my stocker is plastic....I still need to find a metal core...not a big deal, but another thing to remember. I still want one though (an AMM intake)

if you don't have one he can usually find one from a junkyard
just use a 1gn manifold as a core

That could very well be an honest mistake. Not like you're gonna cut it open to check. If it was just chucked in the box and shipped, how would you know? Shit you can get the same thing storing your car over the winter. Besides unless you get the scoop from both parties involved, instead of a third party it's hard to make a judgement on someones character. I'm not taking any sides here, just can't see this getting blown out of proportion. Besides it would be sorta cool if they didn't come flyin' out till it was fired up! Baked rat FTW!

The amm intakes are custom made to order so it's gonna be hard to find a used one anywhere. Not sure how much they run, I know it says somewhere in one of his posts.

Luckily the DFW are has junkyards everywhere so a 1st gen sohc manifold is pretty easy to find for under $50.

I think he quoted me right around $300 for a N/A intake + the core. Last I heard he was swampped with orders and is not taking anymore until he can catch up...which means you have plenty of time to save $$$ and find a core. An intake is a little further down my "to do" list....but if I come across and offer I can't refuse, I will jump on it (Assuming I have the $$$ at the time)

An intake manifold really isn't a big hp "gain" without other add ons just get a cam, an udp, and an exhaust. If your not willing to spend 225 on a working intake mani you wont be willing to spend another 80 or so on a window switch to make it even work. The only reason I got one was because I was sick of the plastic ones blowing up due to nitrous backfires and it came with my new motor. But if you feel that an intake manifold will be better for your car go for it, but unless you have extensive headwork done to your car your not going to feel any gains.

i got 1,500 in head work,225 is nothing to me,but i rather make a deal than blow money!!! my 2.0L motor will eat the srt4 thats why i wont even bother getting one.more power to then though, they are nice and if you tune then right they come out pretty fast.

but thats why its time for a intake and i dont do nos, bottles are for baby's i do got a bigger better cam too.

so i got the AMM,magnum and the venom intakes to choose from or i can contact this dude on ebay and he could port the plastic intake,
what do yall think about that, deal or no deal

I wouldn't bother with porting the plastic intake as you'll still have the big bend in it. I'm sure it will be an improvment but an AMM or a ghettoblaster seems to be the more logical and straight forward install.

No to be a dick, but I have more done to my car then you do including the entire magnum swap same cam plus more and I won't beat an stock srt-4. You must either have magic powers or they didn't know you were racing. You need some kind of forced induction or power adder to be able to pass up an srt-4 with a stock bottom end sohc 2nd gen neon. And a big cam is like a crane 05 or 08 cam, but they run best with a built motor if you want your motor not to eventually blow up.
